I'm studying German, and I'm looking for fun resources. Please suggest cool magazines (technology, art/design, or whatever), children's books, websites, and especially musicians/bands. I'm a Prince fan, obviously, and like funk/rock music. Cool with pop and trance as well.

Also, I'd dearly love to find/get/buy NTSC tapes or Region 1 DVDs of tv shows. . .any, but especially German dubs of American ones. . .Simpsons, Star Trek TNG, even Friends. . .whatever. Just a fun way to expose myself to German via characters I'm already familiar with.

Of course, I hope to travel to German-speaking countries eventually, but for the moment I can't afford to, so this will have to do.

There are not too many artists (despite from the rap/hiphop community) that sing (rap) in german. 2 come to my mind who are also great lyricists: Xavier Naidoo and Herbert Groenemeyer. As a Prince fan you might really like Xavier Naidoo (though his music is not part of the genres you mentioned). But he has a fantastic voice and when he's as his best he sometimes reminds of TTD with his spiritual lyrics and soulful voice. But don't be afraid, his lyrics are a lot easier to understand than TTDs. If you check him out try some of his newer stuff, "Abschied Nehmen" for example is a fantastic song IMHO
