Star Wars Rogue One Prequel Series

Thu, Nov 8

Disney just announced a brand new live-action Star Wars series that will serve as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger revealed the new series on the fourth quarter earnings call for investors.

The series will feature Diego Luna's character of Cassian Andor in the early formation of the Rebel Alliance, set before the events of Rogue One, and will premiere exclusively on Disney+, which is the newly unveiled name of the company's upcoming streaming service.

The Star Wars website described the series thusly:

"The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced."

Awesome! Can’t wait!

If only the Solo movie was 1/4 as good as Rogue One.

Solo has to be second to that Star Wars Christmas movie.

Yikes,

The Star Wars Christmas special was better than solo. Disney needs to bury solo and pretend it never happened.

I still haven´t watched Solo simply because my Star Wars buddies had no time to go to the movie theater with me but I haven´t heard a single good thing about it. I wonder why.

I mean, it has all the ingredients to be a decent Star Wars film.....a background story, likeable characters (Lando, Chewbacca, Han Solo), the Millenium Falcon and a story that we´ve more or less heard or speculated about.

What is your main reason for disliking it?

I´m just curious .

It feels like no one cared making this movie. There’s nothing particularly “Star Wars” about it other than the characters. I was falling asleep a couple of times it’s so generic. It feeels like a really really bad attempt to make it like a Marvel movie.

“Rogue One” with all it’s flaws still felt like a Star Wars movie.

I'm always sceptical of prequels about characters where we already know their ultimate fate ... it'll be impossible to place Andor in any jeopardy as we know he makes it unscathed to the Rogue One film. And equally it'll be tough to get invested when we know he gets a premature death in the film to.

I watched it last night and you´re right. Though I didn´t dislike it as much as you do, it somehow lacked that Star Wars vibe but I can´t even exactly say why. Something about it felt odd despite having some of my favorite characters in it. And you´re right about Rogue One, which for the most part (until those final scenes) had very few original Star Wars characters in it but still had that Star Wars atmosphere.

...And the visuals of Rogue one were AMAZING. That opening scene! The ruins of the Jedi sculpture on the ground. And I LOVE K-2SO. It’s nice seeing a great new character added to the Star Wars legacy. I like him almost as much as BB8.
I would say K-2SO stole the entire movie. And likewise Felicity Jones was just so miscast and the worst part of the movie.

I'm mildly interested in this, but so far Disney+ has little that I'm excited about. Apple's upcoming service has more interesting shows.

Well Rogue One had Vader, and even though we knew what happened to that character it didn’t diminish his presence in the film. It was the highlight of Rogu One actually. Same with the prequels. And I loved the the CG Clone Wars series and we also knew what would happen to Anakin but it added a lot of new things to the Star Wars universe.

I don’t know if it will be any good, but I think it has promise.
