And just a note, this is meant to be a direct sequel to the original, bypassing all the other sequels and reboots in between. This is her story, forty years later and how a woman deals with stalking, harassment, and trauma. I am not a huge fan of the original (it's sorta just drawn out), but I am looking forward to this sequel. Jamie Lee was on The View the other day and it was just so great to hear her talk about women, and empowerment, and this movie.

Cannot wait for this (even though I'm a bit gutted they cut Halloween II out of the continuity, and even H2O which I thought had a good premise if just a bit poorly executed).

From what I've heard its gotten good reviews from the test showings. David Gordon Green has some decent films in his back catalogue so hopefully he's done a good job with this. If nothing else, it surely can't be worse than the Rob Zombie abomination!

When the orignal came out in 1978, I was 15. It was the scariest movie I had ever seen up to that point of my life. My friend and I went to see it and we screamed our heads off and couldn't sleep for days. I will be seeing this one for old times sake. razz

The original scared me as a little kid too. It's a great "psycholgical" horror flick..There's no blood, no gore but the suspense is what's scary...even the camera angles/shots are creepy...and the fact that this lunatic is lurking around in the day time is chilling too...I remember being scared at the final scenes..classic film.

The music is scary. Even though Michael Myers walks really slow you know he's gonna catch up with you sooner or later

Finally saw the film tonight and despite my scepticism I really enjoyed myself. Went a long way in capturing the look and feel of the original which was fun to see. Carpenter's soundtrack update is fantastic to.

Not a perfect film. ... still not a patch on the original and doesn't do anything we haven't already seen in the slasher genre, but probably the best sequel they've done so far.

My full write up is below for those interested (does have spoilers):

One of the greatest. If not the greatest. Certainly my favourite horror movie and movie overall.

As for this sequel... the hype is unbelievable, but the movie severly disappointing. The disappointment already started with them ignoring all the sequels, which, apart from H6 and Resurrection are all enjoyable to various degrees. Also this move diminishes Michael to a loser, who managed to kill a measly 5 people and spent 55 of his 61 years locked up in the loony bin. The removement of the sister angle, reduces Laurie to a raving lunatic, who let one night 40 years ago destroy her live and anticipate something that makes no sense. With her not being the sister, there is no logical way to assume he would come for her again. And really, he doesn't... it's all just coincidence that he spots her. As for the story, it's convoluted with stupid characters and actions, including Laurie's. As a Halloween fan, I'm happy it's successul again, but other them that I'm getting annoyed with all the fools claiming this is the best sequel. The H20 Laurie and "final" confrontation was believable. This one isn't. I don't really buy a Sarah Connor Laurie.

I'm not sure I'd class killing 5 people in one evening as 'measly'.

And I assume he'd come for her again as the one that got away that night and the one that led to him being captured.

Compared to the 64 people the original Michael killed, it's measly. They just reduced him to something pathetic (in the context of the notorious serial killer/movie slasher... obviously a serial killer is pathetic either way wink ), who was locked up for almost all his life.

And why would that be important to him? And why 40 years later? It's just without the sister angle there seems less drive/nessesity/less reasonable to expect him to finish her off. And really, had he not seen her from the window, he probably wouldn't have bothered.

But isn't that more realistic, and thus more frightening? Part of the reason Carpenters film was so scary is because it felt quite real, the scale of the thing and how it played out, an actual deranged man turning up on Halloween and killing babysitters ... once you start adding in figures like 64 deaths over a number of years with constant jailbreaks, police bungling, multiple gunshots and wounds survived, etc it starts to become unrealistic and, for me at least, less scary.

I don't think he did wait 40 years, that just happens to be when the opportunity to escape came up. And if not, he's nuts so I don't think motivation or thinking comes in to it that much.

Point taken re. Laurie ... I think he just returned to Haddonfield to kill because that's all he knows. Laurie put herself in his path, he saw her, a moment of recall and he's after her again, simple as that. The sister thing had some plot holes in it anyway, I always thought that when I saw the original Part 2, and even Carpenter said it was a hokey thing he just chucked in there ... so even though I'm a bit sad a couple of the sequels I like are no longer canon, in terms of plot logic I can see it makes sense.

Really enjoyed it. I'm in with the staff at my local cinema so I was able to bring my daughter with me to see it. She just watched the original the night before so she wanted to see the new one. And she loved it. More than I did, it must be said. But like I said, I really enjoyed it too. I still prefer the original though.

I watched the original last night and still think it's the scariest movie I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll see this new movie tonight.

I'm excited to see it, but I am under no pretense that it's going to be better than the scariest movie I've ever seen.

As long as it's not dumb and/or filled with plot holes, I'm sure I'll be satsified.

LOL, I won't.

I caught the last 2 minutes of "Hallowwen 5" before the original came on. I hope the first 118 or so minutes were better than what I saw, LOL.
