They've been showing a bunch of old favorites on a local TV station the past few days (some I haven't seen in decades): Vincent Price classics (House of Wax, Dr. Phibes, etc.), Swamp Thing (a cheesy cult classic), Night of the Living Dead, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane (better than when I was a kid! LOL), The Other (from 1972), a couple of Steven King movies (Thinner and Sleepwalkers--not his best), and just now Bram Stoker's Dracula from 1992. I forgot how much I liked Gary Oldman as Dracula. Although the direction is uneven at times, I still think this is a classic. What are your favorite "Halloween" type thrillers?

It's 50/50 if Stephen (no V) King movies are scary. The remake of IT was great (and timed to be 27 years after the original, which is how often the clown comes around). My best ones are, in no order:

Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time favorite movies...but put in the context of how you describe it, it certainly is horrific. Haven't seen Cabin In The Woods but I heard it was scary. OF course, some of the movies I described aren't horror flicks but have a Halloween-ish theme to them. Maybe I should have phrased it differently... LOL I do remember Vincent Price's The Pit and The Pendulum (based on Edgar Allen Poe's story) scaring the crap out of me when I was a little kid and had the flu... LOL And Carrie is ALWAYS a great Halloween flick.

Cabin In The Woods has a couple of great twists in it. Definitely worth watching.

Horror flicks come in many forms: slasher, gore, thriller, sci-fi, gothic, zombie, found footage, teen, comedic, supernatural, low budget, holiday (Krampus, as an example which I should have included), and many more.

Shawshank could be a stretch, but I used it to highlight how horror is different. Something like Fatal Attraction is listed as a thriller, but it is psychological horror. People call it a psychological thriller, but if a woman took your kid to an amusement park and boiled a rabbit in your kitchen, then tried to kill your wife, no one would say, "it was such a psychological thing that happened". People would say, "it was horrific what my family faced". Horror is a really vast genre, in my opinion, not just monsters or slasher films. Hell, the 2016 U.S. election was a fucking horrorfest! haha

Just to say, horror is defined differently. I mean, we've all seen Graffiti Bridge....with friends!

Maybe the 2016 election and the midterms are too much of a real-life horror this Halloween for any one here to focus on mere movies... They all seem to be in P&R these dayze...
