They are just misunderstood

Tough call ... my fave slasher film would be Halloween so that places Michael pretty high.

Freddy, love his weapon but he became too much of a clown. Similarly Ghostface has an awesome look but had too much prat-falling ... plus the people behind the mask in the latter films were a bit lame.

I find the Texas Chainsaw films a bit too grim so Leatherface is out. Candyman is awesome, Tony Todd is a great actor and his look was stunning ... just a shame his sequels were poor.

Pinhead had some of the best lines in any horror film and one of the best looks, but again is undone by lame sequels. The Mineworker (no name spoilers) in My Bloody Valentine was brutal and his outfit was great ... just a shame he didn't get a sequel ... ditto 'rosemary's killer' in The Prowler.

If Patrick Bateman counts I'd have him in second place, he cracks me up. So that leaves Jason Vorhees for the win ... has the best look, the best variety in his kills, the most number of quality sequels, awesome setting, cool backstory, and an awesome theme tune ... ki ki ki ki ma ma ma ma!!
