I heard the teapot constellation (Sagittarus) is best viewed from the southern hemisphere, where it looks like the milky way is steam coming out of a teapot. I've only seen the milky way in it's full glory this year, but couldn't make out the teapot, wrong time of year I think. Of course there was so much more to see too.

I've been thinking for years to buy a decent telescope, but even the more expensive ones are still too limited imo. Good for a while but not 'the big thing'.

Yeah, really good telescopes cost, too big for my budget given how much I'd actually use it.


I have astrological binoculars, which are pretty good to use around my home. Not big on going into the dark boonies late at night by myself. I can use others telescopes when I go in a group.

Seeing that "galaxy" room at Paisley gave me a big smile.

It will be here on Friday. I don't ever buy myself anything, all year long, except the bare necessities, and will splurge on an item for my birthday. My oldest son can't afford to get me anything, and my two yougest don't have their own money to purchase me anything, so I buy myself something and tell the kids it's from them.

There were some cheaper ones, but I figure since I only splurge on myself once a year, I can do $200, that's about $67 per kid. I'm hoping to use my camera and take some pictures of the heavens.

They say that you can see Saturn's rings with this one and some of the nebeulas. There are images in the reviews of what other customers have taken. And I did some research online and saw other similar pictures taken with this one.

My oldest son has a birthday a week after mine, so I bought him one, too, but a smaller one (less expensive).

Yeah, I never understood that to be honest. Sure, if we view our existence through the lense of the universe, we’re insignificant but I view my existence through the lense of my existence, the point of which is to enjoy myself without being a detriment to the enjoyment of others whilst I’m here. The unlikelyness of my existence both from a universal perspective and a biological one makes it all the more meaningful (to me) and precious.

It would be nice as a species we all could get to that point.


Anyway, I'm still of the mind I was as a kid. It's a bit simplistic I know but I'm still kind of blown away that everything we imagine to do, the resources are right here on this planet to do it. We took that picture of that pale blue dot, it wasn't sent to us. Our physical being is miniscle but our imagination and capability is damned near limitless.

I love these kinds of experiences! When we lived in central florida there was a specific space in my backyard where we could see the space shuttle night lauches. I'd wake my son in the middle of the night and carry him out to see them with me.

In 1997 the Hale-Bopp comet was fully visible for a couple of nights

When we lived in Upstate New York there were no street lights where we lived and it offered perfect views of meteor showers.

I've seen the aurora borealis from the sky, but I want to see it from the ground.
