Nappily Ever After - the film So, has anyone seen it on Netflix? I have and it was lit - One of the greatest things about the film was that the story was unpredictable. Until the very end, I didn't know what would happen. Obviously, I hadn't read the book on which it is based. full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

I'm sorry, English is not my first language. I thought that "lit" means "superb". full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

English is my first language but I'm old and don't care about keeping up with the lastest slang so I'm no help. How about saying what you mean using words you understand the meaning of. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=lit - I mean, yeah, I should definitely stick to the words I'm 100% sure about, but the problem is that if I did so, no one would probably talk to me here. The thing is there's a hegemony of English in the world, so if you don't know English, you're practically dead. And if you only speak "academic English", then you sound unnatural. So me using colloquial English is just a way to fit in. Besides, no one is going to teach you at school about "shit", "fuck" or "Netflix and chill". Try navigating the org without knowing these phrases. Good luck. full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

Watched it and YES, it was lit AF.... because I relate and a NON-White woman.... don't expect White folks to relate, especially men. This movie is not for you. Sorry.
If you are a woman of color, this movie is as deep as the colonialism imposed on us on a daily. A must watch, and I will be getting that book.
BTW Fulllipsdotnose, you used the term perfectly.

You did fine. I'm 'old' and I got it. Your English is superb, by the way. [Edited 10/3/18 23:05pm] [Edited 10/4/18 8:17am]

BTW you owe her an apology for bringing comments like this to the discussion. How are you going to tell a person HOW TO TALK???? WTF is wrong with you? The fuckery I swear! Ugh. She simply used words she wanted to use and that should be OK.
Could you imagine if your natural, clean, and groomed hair was considered unkept to go to school or work????
It was a suberb movie because it helps White people have a window into the racism imposed on Black people by Whites, which is called COLONIALISM... and overcoming that. MY GOD HOW YOU MISSED THOSE POINTS.......
Ugh, this is why I stay away from the fucking org, I am reminded of the bullshit.... let me go to Pippet's thread.

Thank you for calling him out for criticizing her choice of words. I think she speaks amazing English. He is a very arrogant person.

Really? I'm getting you are making a ton of incorrect assumptions. What is more powerful than a "beautiful" black woman shaving her head like that on camera? There is so much being said in that single gesture. I understood it completely which is why I'm harping on it. How vulnerable. This thread became all about what the word "lit" meant as opposed to the movie because the OP doesn't speak like in reallife, why be fake, be yourself whoever you are, embrace it, love it. Please stop trying to pretend you know all about this natural 4c woman based on a couple of sentences on a message board. If one doesn't understand, ask, I'm perfectly capable of explaining what I mean. And the movie wasn't about showing white people anything. It was about finding ones true self. Everything isn't about shaking a finger in white folks face. [Edited 10/5/18 8:26am] Time keeps on slipping into the future...
