Animal translation...

Sorry, this is another poo thread.

But you know when dogs take a dump, they then scratch the ground with one foot twice, then the other a few times, what do you perceive that to be saying?

Me, I think that dog is saying 'Fuck me, I feel so much lighter now I've got rid of that heap. Yay, I can thrash around this field now!'

Have you ever noticed an animal doing something and given your own interpretation of what they might say if they could talk?

Yes... Izzy, my cat, when he squints his eyes really tiny and turns to walk away, then turns back around and looks at me, still with his eyes squinted, and prissily turns around and completely walks away with his ass in the air and his head held high.

I take this to mean, "Fuck you".

My cat, Ziggy, did something similar, she used to squint her eyes while lying down, I'd make a quick squeak noise with my lips, she'd look up, make eye contact and then as she looked away, she'd squint her eyes again... and press them together really tight while moving her feet that were stretched out, forward about a centimetre.

This means, 'Hummm? I was asleep... Oh you don't want anything. Zzzz... I'm content...'

Yep! I know that one, too!

How about when you talk to them, in baby talk, (I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this)... like, "Ooooh... you's such a pretty baby... yes, you's is, you're such a BIG boy!", and they are laying there and will do that squinty thing with their eyes after every sentence you say to them. I take this to mean... "Thank you, yes, I know I am."

lol... are they piranahs? smile

I had a cichlid once, I loved that fish... he not only ate every other fish that I put in there with him, but he would dig holes like a dog in there. Take a stone, pop it in his mouth, swim over to the other side of the tank, and spit it out. He'd spend hours doing that until he had a nice big hole. It really messed him up when I would clean the tank and dump new stones in there. big grin

When I would pop another fish in there with him, to see if that one would survive, the fish (I named him Spike), would stop swiming, stay in one spot, and just tremble. I took that to mean... "YES! FRESH MEAT! I am SO excited!"

You are so bad  I have a tank full of cichlids of all colors, yellow, orange, blue and they are mean as hell. I have a crayfish in there also and the bit one of his pinchers off. He hides in the rock now and never comes out(he is alive becuase i can see his feet moving).

Well... I hated to kill the other fish, but you would think that one of them would have survived in there with him! I even got the ones that they told me would live in there with him. Nope. I tried to get larger fish than he was. Still no luck. I once did murder fish on purpose. I went and bought three little gold fish and dumped them in there for the sole purpose of giving him a treat. I felt so horrible afterwards that I couldn't hardly stand myself for a week.. I just kept thinking what a horrible person I was to have done that.

Cichlids rock! They look like little prisoners! smile

Haystack

When my dog's finished writing me some poetry, she looks at me and puts her head to one side and gives me the doggie equivalent of sticking up her middle finger, in a cute sort of way.

It's like she's daring me to give a critique of her work.

Has anyone ever had a shy pet? (or a pet that seemed shy?) I used to have a dog who wouldn't eat in front of us (us being my family). After you put her food into the bowl she'd just look at you, slightly wagging her tail, wait until you'd turn around and walk away, then eat. smile

I asked my vet about that and he said that a lot of dogs
do that to give off an extra scent to mark their territory.
Apparantly their feet give off a certain smell when they
rub them on the ground like that.

My dog does this to an extreme, where he sometimes rubs
and scratches so hard that grass flies up to about eye
level and sand skitters all the way across the street.

He usually growls too whilst doing this, which is rather
funny since he's quite small and very shy otherwise.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
