Orange is the New Black - Season 6: 3.5 of 5 (last half of the season - 4 of 5).

I have always been a fan of this show, though it can be erratic. There were so many dramatic changes this year that it took a few episodes to get into it again. Part of my issue about the first few shows is that the inevitable brutality is hardly ever brokem by a moment of postivie connection between characters or the trademark Orange humor. That started coming back in later sessions. In retrospect, perhaps it makes sense that the first few episodes would be extremely dark given what happened at the end of last year and the consequences of this. It just didn't make me want to binge watch it like usual until midway into the season.

I quite enjoyed OITNB this season. It was a whole different setup. It was a nice juxtaposition to last season's 3-day riot orgy. New setup, people divided up and new alliances forming, etc. Baddison was annoying but a good play against Piper. MacKenzie Phillips was so good in the Barb & Carol storyline. It's a solid 4 out of 5 for me.

I am currently watching Castle Rock which I am totally loving. I've been a longtime Stephen King fan, and this new King universe is just so great so far. If you want to know all the references & Easter eggs, GameSpot Universe does videos on YouTube with two mega King fans that fill in the blanks. Just watch the episode each week first, because obviously spoilers.

I have Ozark on Netflix in my queue as well. I like Jason Bateman. He picks these little quiet movies or sleeper projects that are often rich in story & acting. He's not DeNiro but he is good at what he does. We are giving a couple of episodes a run tonight.

I'm glad Better Call Saul is back.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm really looking forward to Castle Rock. Without going into spoiler territory, are there any references to The Dark Tower? I love those books but the movie was terrible. It would be a shame if that ends up being the only adaptation.

Yes, it was great seeing Mackenzie in a meaty role.

No spoilers, just teases.

First, I'm a bad King fan because I haven't read The Dark Tower series yet. So I do not know. BUT if you find the videos on YT I mentioned, those guys will tell you whether anything from that shows up or not.

I will tell you that so far there is only ONE character from King books. Sheriff Pangborn.

One other character, not telling the name, is a relative of a very well known King book/character, even sharing an opposite gendered version of the name.

So far, the only other close thing is Sissy Spacek being in it (she is not Carrie, obvi).

Also, Bill Skarsgard, who played Pennywise, is in it. But most people do not believe this is an early version of that character. This is present day. IT was in the past. We actually don't really know if Bill's character is good or bad yet.

Pay attention to the opening credits. SO many King references. The GameStop Universe breaks down the opening credits by itself. It's fascinating to see what they jammed into it.

It all seems slow at first, but it's not. There is a lot of Shawshank in it (a lot of the story starts in the prison). By episode, it really gets moving into fun territory. I highly recommend the YT videos to help sort everything out per ep after you watch them.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Season 4 just ended tonight. Perhaps it is too soon to rate it, but here it goes. I had the opposite reaction to the season than I did for the new season of Orange is the New Black. I was really getting pulled into it until the last few episodes, which seemed too melodramatic! Yes, the show has always been melodramatic at times but this has been balanced by the characters being interesting from a psychological perspective. It just went a bit over the top towards the end of this season, which brought the rating down from a 4 to a 3 of 5.

The Sinner S1/E7 A- Top notch acting and great writing. I have one more episode to go. S2 started a couple of weeks ago.

Sideswiped S1/E 1, 2 & 3 B+: Also check out this youtube series it's quite humorous. Alot of cool cameos. Great to see Rosanna Arquette as well.

Saw S1 Episodes 1,2, 3 and 4 of Hulu's Castle Rock B+. It's getting better and better.

Also watching John Singleton's new series "Snowfall" B+ Season 1 E 1-5. B+ It's pretty good too. Season 2 premiered a couple of weeks ago.

OWN is marathoning Greenleaf last week and this coming weekend as a build-up to the season 3 premiere at the end of the month. I've kind of wanted to watch it, & this was my chance. I filled up the DVR with season one, and finished it this morning. I'm quite anxious for season 2.

Having been a huge fan of Dallas back in the day, Greenleaf feels a lot like a modern-day Dallas. The big house, the family and their offspring & spouses living under the same huge roof. Some children are more favored by the parents than others, creating power struggles within the family business (which, here, is running a megachurch). Lynn Whitfield is just spectacular in it. Oprah plays her sister (and local bar owner) who she's on the outs with. One son-in-law is gay and his wife (played by Deborah Winans of the famous Winans family) is pregnant with twins. (he's constantly swiping right on his gay-tindr app and she can't figure out why he's on his phone so much). One daughter comes back home from AZ with her child. The mother is upset by her return knowing she could upset everything. Sure enough, the prodigal daughter does just that - exposes a family secret (sexual abuse by the brother of the first lady of the church - Whitfield's character) and the ensuing coverup for twenty years. From episode one, it's fire! It's also not a Tyler Perry production which drew me in. I can't stand his stuff.

Queen Sugar just finished its third season and it was a spectacular finale last night.

I'm still balls deep in Castle Rock. And loving it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Hulu Fargo S3E1 A-

Image result for Fargo S3 cast

I've seen every season of Fargo(Each season has a different story) and they are fantastic. This one starts off great with the first episode. Great casting as usual. The eye candy of Mary and Carrie doesn't hurt either.

I was a latecomer to this series, but I finally watched the first

two series on Netflix due to good word of mouth. It tooked

a while for it to grow on me, but season 2 added some depth without

foresaking the silliness.

Season 1 : 3 of 5 stars

Season 2: 4 od 5 stars

Yep, I thought for the few episodes but season 2 was significantly better.

I am trying out Ozark since I finished GLOW, by the way.

Ozark gets moving straight away, then changes everything when they move. The story constantly unfolds with new twists and OMG moments. I hope season 3 gets greenlit, and I'm sure it will. But the way season 2 ended, it's almost good as is. But season 3 would certainly be a whole new landscape in all this. These first two seasons seemed insular to themselves.

Also, watch the emblem at the beginning of every episode. The circle with the + in it and the four symbols. They change for every episode. They are things that will happen in the episode. Like an easter egg at the very beginning.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

By the way, I'm finally trying to finish up Bloodline on Netflix. I started it a long time ago and never got back to season 3.

I am going to delve back into Narcos as well (I'm early in season 2) and catch up when I'm done with Bloodline.

I'll do all this after Castle Rock ends next week.

Strange Things (season two) 0/10 so far.

I kinda enjoyed season one. Season two (so far..hope it gets better) reminds me of the 80โ€™s TV show Small Wonder. Cheap and stupid and sometimes creepy. (The older cop keeps the girl stashed away in the woods lol / Boys stalking a girl / wierd idea of what the 80โ€™s looked and felt like)

I will probably finish up the season, this season seems like itโ€™s aimed for a far younger audience and dumbed down quite a bit.

The First (2018) Starring a very ripped Sean Penn in thinking person's sci-fi, about the physical, financial, political and emotional cost of space exploration. It has great cast (including Australia's Melissa George) with a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Looking forward to Season 2, when the crew lands on Mars. I give it a 4 out of 5 popcorn
