Hey EmmaMcG Batwoman TV series?

Casting Batwoman For The CW TV Show

ruby-rose-batwoman-the-cw-1127217-1280x0.jpeg

Batwoman is coming to The CW, but who will play Kate Kane? The network has confirmed not only that character of Batwoman will be openly g...Arrowverse, but that they plan to cast an openly gay actress in the role. This casting choice is in line with the current iteration of Batwoman in the comics; Kate Kane is a Jewish lesbian who decides to fight crime under the moniker of Batwoman after she is kicked out of West Point for refusing to lie about her sexuality.

Both Batwoman and Gotham City are slated to be introduced during the annual Arrowverse crossover event, and a spinoff show is already in the works. The CW has featured previously featured LGBTQ+ characters in other Arrowverse shows and will feature its first openly trans character (and actress) in Supergirl later this year. However, Batwoman will be the first openly LGBTQ+ title character of a CW Arrowverse show.

The casting call for Batwoman stated that The CW was seeking an openly gay actress of any ethnicity, between 25-29. Given that the casting call asks for any ethnicity, the physical appearance of Kate Kane in the comics is not necessarily a determining factor for casting her CW counterpart. As such, when putting together this casting list, ethnicity, race, and other physical characteristics like height were not taken into account (the focus was on age, sexuality, and experience). In some cases, the availability of actresses meant that they were excluded from this list, including Diona Reasonover (NCIS) and Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Legends of Tomorrow).

That's an old article. The actress, Ruby Rose, was announced a week ago.

LOL. Can you imagine that. I don't think the criminals of Gotham City would take me seriously.

I don't know why they are going out of their way to cast an openly gay actress. Just because the character is gay doesn't mean the actor needs to be. That's why they call it "acting". Surely they should concentrate on getting the best actress for the job and her sexuality shouldn't even be a factor.

yeah I agree with you. Gay actors play straight people all the time. Not familiar with Bat woman, is she gay or are they changing the character?

Gay characters on TV are almost always supporting roles. The fact that this is a lead role and the character has a "passion for social justice" made the casting of an out actress necessary .

Did it really though? When I'm watching a movie I'm not caring if the actor is gay or not. It doesn't matter to the finished product. They should just hire the best actress for the job. If she's gay, then that's great. But if she's straight, then she shouldn't be discriminated against for being straight. I have been in several productions of The Rocky Horror Show and sometimes the actor playing Frank-N-Furter is gay, sometimes he's straight. One time it was a woman. But it never made any difference to the story one way or another.

I think she is a lesbian in the comics. I can't say for sure because I've never read one but I remember hearing it before that the character was gay.

It sounds like CW doesn't want any of the controversy that Disney is curently facing:

Jack Whitehall faces backlash as Disney's 'first gay man'

Jack Whitehall has received backlash online after news broke that he'd been cast as Disney's first major gay character in Jungle Cruise.

The comedian wrote that he was "honoured" to be a part of the 2019 film, and it was later reported that he would be playing an openly gay man.

The news has led some people to ask why a gay actor wasn't cast for the role.

OK, despite what I said earlier I can understand some of the backlash over this. But only because Jack Whitehall is fucking awful and there's no way anyone in their right mind would think that he's the best actor for ANY role in ANY movie. I don't think they should go out of their way to cast a gay actor but at least hire someone who can act. That would be a good start.
