Heatwave

Seems like there is a heatwave going on in the whole world right now. Temperatures in Spain are supposedly going to hit a record 50°. Here in Holland, we have hardly had any rain for more than a month now.
What's your experience? How is everybody doing?

I love it !

I know some people get a bit stressed out and yes, there have been many wildfires but still, I love having a hot summer for a change. I understand that some people are really concerned but I think weather and climate are two different things.

I live in the Czech Republic. In my social bubble, I have seen people making fun of the situation. There was a rain tonight, thankfully. Other than that, I shower at least four times a day (if I work from home), don't go out for walks nor do I walk my dog. In the office, it's bad because there are no showers. I hardly sleep at night and drink gallons of pear juice.

The heat is killing me at night. Thankfully its not as hot now here as it was a few weeks ago but it's still too warm at night to sleep. I have my fiancé sleeping in the spare room because I can't bare the heat emanating from his body. He's like some sort of human radiator. So I'm getting two hours sleep a night on average. But on the bright side, I'm getting a lot of reading done.

i'm not a summer person. i could happily live in a place it never got above 10 c, so i'm always primed to find summers a bit of a chore to get through. but this has been the most miserable, relentless, grindingly awful summer i can recall. there was a patch in july that was as viciously hot as any period i've experienced.

there are people who enjoy such things. i'm not one of them. as far as i'm concerned, summer & everything associated with it can eat a bag of rancid dicks. fuck off and die summer, soon. please and thanks.

I live in Northern California and there are several ongoing fires which are a result of lack of rain.

Because we stop getting rain in March, by October, the vegetation is really dry. I heard our Govenor, Jerry Brown state that we will need to budget for yearly summer fires. 13,000 firefighters are fighting current fires.

I love summer, however it really is too much right now here in germany. Seriously, I feel like you gotta get a small pool for your room, fill it with a bit of cold water and sleep in that instead of your bed - it's THAT hot in germany.

I mean, I'm also a bit jealous of the kids who are on hollidays now lol we didn't have a great summer like that when I went to school the last couple of years.

I'm afraid children may overheat easily sad When I was a child I got sunburnt easily. Nowadays, hardly ever. But maybe it's just because my skin darkened.

I also remember the last night of an academic year at university when I almost passed out because of the heat. I was burning, drinking water didn't help and I had to make frequent stops on my way home to lay down in the street and relax. When I got home I took a cold shower, but I started trembling. I didn't sleep at night at all as I was worried I would never get up afterwards. Yeah, I was paranoid.

As for me, I usually hate those sweaty nights, but I sleep better than I thought I would. It's always the humidity that bothers me, not the temperature. And because it's so dry, the nights aren't so humid as they usually are in a hot summer. And there are very few mosquitos!

I use to love summer in my younger days ... working a little bit on the weekends, then spending the week topping up my tan, heading down the beach, going out clubbing with no need for a coat etc.

Now I'm 37 I could do without it. I've wised up to pointlessness and dangers of sitting in the sun for a tan, I work in an office with no air con all week, going out for runs or cycles in 30 degree plus heat is painful and not good for you, the general public seem to have even less patience in the heat, you can barely see your TV in the evening if she sun is shining on it, sleeping is hit and miss mad

Autumn is now my fave ... cooler weather for exercising, the beauty of the trees changing colour, Halloween ... biggrin

What part of India? Because I think the rainy season may not be the same throughout the country- or subcontinent, as it's sometimes called.

Okay, denominaitor, thanks for the reply in the orgnote, I hope you didn't intend to keep it a secret. wink I would still like to know: so it's the rainy season in the north east of India. What's it like in the rest of the country, like, say, Kerala of Rajasthan?

Don't really know - A quick Google shows Rajasthan is at 29 degrees, and Kerala 27.

My daughter is really pale skinned, like me, but whereas I avoid the sun at all costs, she loves it. We live across from the beach so every time there's a bit of sun she's waking me up at half 7 in the morning trying to drag me across the road so she can play on the sand. Maybe if she got sunburnt she'd stop bugging me. biggrin

Not so much. He likes to sleep with the window open, even in winter, so once again, it's the spare room for him.

will mean I wake up with a headache.

I'm not a hot weather/summer person either. It's been really hot here in Michigan for the past several months. It started in April. Lots of days in the 90's. We are expecting temps in the 90s again this weekend. mad mad mad This has been a looooong summer! confused And still at least 2 to 3 months more to go. rolleyes I remember some Halloweens that were in the upper 80's. I hope that's not the case this year. I'm ready for some cool, comfortable weather. I really miss my blanket. biggrin

Same here. Never have been a summer person. The only place I have found it mildly acceptable was upstate New York. There would be about 2 weeks out of the year that we needed the AC.

Luckily so far this year we (I'm in between Baltimore and Philly) have not had an ambient temp over 100 F. I'm seeing temps way high for the west and for our neighbors to the north. And for the fam in Europe and UK....I feel for you!! Drinking lots of water is great but then, you got to empty it out too!!

Fully acclimated at this point. Those hot summer nights were the worst, 24C (75F) at 3am really sucks, but we only had 3 or 4 of those nights where I live (Rotterdam).

Buffalo, NY...high heat & humidity. In drought conditions...occasional power outages due to too much usage by public. But, knowing how our winters are I'm not complaining! Won't be long until we're shoveling our way out of the house!
