Spielberg wanted to do a prequel but Lucas refused and claimed he wanted to do those himself even though he was asking directors other than Spielberg to direct the prequels.

I'm begging you to tell me that isn't true. I could have accepted the other rumor I posted, which is the exact opposite, because it was a viable defense for Lucas' direction.

I hope and pray they Spielberg does at least a one-off in the franchise.

(In any event, I would not be surprised to see a reboot of the whole Skywalker Saga in my lifetime.)

Actually, I think Spielberg would be prefect for a Yoda movie.

Obi-Wan was the first to come to mind, but frankly . . .

I couldn't agree with you more!

Speilberg is awful ... not that there has been a decent director since the OT

Spielberg is awful?? Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindlers List, ET, Close Encounters, Saving Private Ryan etc. His career as a director is unmatched. Scorsese, Kubrick and Hitchcock come close but Spielberg is still king based on the diversity of his movies alone.

Munich is a damn fine movie as well.

Most of his movies are. I don't know if he'd be the right fit for a Star Wars though. I mean, I'm sure he'd make a really good movie but I'd say you'd still get the usual bullshit from supposed "Star Wars fans" saying that it wouldn't have "the feel" of a Star Wars movie or some other such nonsense.

But he was the wrong director for "The Color Purple".

I disagree. He made a really good movie which was praised by critics, was nominated for several oscars and made a lot of money from a modest budget. What more could he have done to convince you he was the "right" director for it?

I really like his last movie he directed (think it was his last movie he directed).

When I saw "The Color Purple" in the theater, I noticed folks were laughing at scenes that weren't supposed to be funny. He overdid certain things, which is okay for an action/sci-fi film, but not for this movie.

I don't know. A few morons laughing at it doesn't undo the tremendous success he had with it both critically and commercially to me. He DOES have a habit of laying it on a bit thick sometimes, especially in his more sentimental movies, but I liken that to how a great guitarist might add an additional, unneeded flourish to the end of a solo, or how a singer might add one syllable too many to the end of a word but as long as its not too intrusive, I let them away with it.

Yeah, that was really good. The book was better in a lot of ways but even the book had a few too many coincidences in it for my liking. More often than not the hero was far too prepared for any challenge that came his way. Like, he had to act out an entire movie but it just so happens to be a movie he's seen hundreds of times. Then he needs to finish a video game and lo and behold, he's played that game hundreds of times before and knows exactly what he needs to do.

Ready Player One was really really bad. I left my faith in Speilberg shattered.
