I did see the documentary on HBO Beware the Slenderman - very sad eerie true tale.

That was probably way better

glad to hear it.

did you say something earlier about there being a big continuity error in it somewhere? or am i making that up?

nothing popped out at me as really glaring, but i don't always have the sharpest eye for things like that.

I did! Wow, what a memory!

In the scene where Otter and Schoenstein are hitting golf balls, the scene goes from Schoenstein setting the clubs down to him having them back on his shoulder. Check out 0:38 - 0:58 here:

i never catch stuff like that, but it's pretty glaring once you have it pointed out. i have a brother-in-law who has the uncanniest eye for such details. it's a bit maddening to watch anything with him because he's the one pointing out 'that bottle was just on the top of the fridge, & now it's on the counter' or 'that glass was 1/2 empty in the last scene.' lol

Steve Jobs 8/10

This is the one written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle and starring Michael Fassbender.

You watch this movie for Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle and boy are they good. Aaron is a poetic storyteller that does all the real people behind the things we take for granted proud. That it’s never really about one person, but a collaboration. It’s a good movie about “people” and mythology not about computers. It’s certainly not a documentary. More like a poem.

You Were Never Really There 6/10

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and am still ambivalent about it. Joaquin Phoenix is great. The direction is great but the subject matter is pitch-black (a pedophelia ring) so it would have been better if they had left out the political aspect of it as it takes it into a more a fantastic element than true darkness of the subject matter itself without shoe-horning that in there.

Side-note, i needed to turn on captions as i could barely understand what Joaquina was saying/mumbling.

You Can't Kill Stephen King starstarstarstar

i've always thought it would be fun to make a movie wherein all of the characters from Stephen King's many books had cameos and in some way the plots of all his books/stories were interwoven, with strange things happening to an unsuspecting couple of travelers on their honeymoon. this movie comes close. four stars because there was a bit too much emphasis on tits and ass for me. i'm a gal so that stuff is sort of boring. but it was a fun watch nonetheless

BlacKkKlansman (2018) A highly entertaining, hard hitting and thought provoking film about Ron Stallworth, an African-American detective from Colorado, infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan. The cast led by Baller's John David Washington was excellent and the soundtrack was amazing. IMO this is the best Spike Lee film since Inside Man (2006) which starred John's dad Denzel. Finally, I sat through the credits just to listen to Mary Don't You Weep by Prince touched I give this a 5 out of 5 popcorn

thoroughbreds (2018) 3/5 teenage girls lily & amanda decide to kill lily's really not so bad step-father. has a bit of a yorgos lanthimos feel, though it feels like a neutered, declawed version to me. the entire run-tme seemed to be on the edge of achieving dogtooth/lobster weird hilarity, but never quite getting there. & olivia cooke's amanda seems like a sketch, a rough draft more than a person. still worth a watch for people who value & seek out odd, quirky things.

eighth grade (2018) 5/5 what a perfect, lovely film. wanted to give it a hug at the end. a kinder, gentler welcome to the dollhouse, if you're looking for a point of reference. this will be one of my favourites of the year.

Crazy Rich Asians 7/10

It’s a light romantic comedy who’s story has been told a million times before. Yes it’s predictable but for what it is, it’s a fun well made movie.

I also loved the music. A lot of pop covers, but very well done. I went and immediately added some tracks to my Spotify playlist.

It doesn’t hurt that everyone in the cast is gorgeous.

It's time for a new and exciting feature - A Movie I Only Watched The First Thirty Minutes Of Because I Already Knew I Would Hate It. Or as I will call this feature from now on - AMIOWTFTMOBIAKIWHI. Or, let's be honest - there aren't going to be any more installments of AMIOWTFTMOBIAKIWHI.

Just like with "Sharknado!"

Man - do you remember 2013? I do! Vaguely, but I do.

That was the year of the surprise hit "Sharknado". It was so bad, so campy and so much FUN! But did you know there is an Org connection on the original "Sharknado"?

Yep - our very own GunsNHalen worked on it. I remember when he posted that he'd just finished work on a movie and he said, "This might be the worst movie ever made. It's about a tornado filled with sharks". We all laughed but most of us promised to watch it in support of GNH's career.

And we're glad we did! "Sharknado" was the surprise hit of the year and spawned 5 sequels.

Sadly, GunsNHalen didn't work on any of the sequels which is probably why, with the exception of the first sequel, the quality of the franchise quickly jumped the shark (oh c'mon, don't groan. YOU KNEW THAT WAS COMING).

Suffice to say that you probably have not and I hope certainly will not ever watch "Sharknado 6 - The End and It's About Time" (that's pretty close to the actual title but I can't be arsed to Google it). It's bad bad bad bad bad bad. It revolves around time travel and we all know that RodeoSchro does not buy into time travel. It's a circle with four corners or as the Zen philospher Basho might say, it's a donut without a hole.

So I guess the thing to do is down a shot of tequila in the memory of the franchise that was "Sharknado" and then have two more shots in honor of our Org friend GunsNHalen, who helped make a sharknado a reality.

Here's to you, GunsNHalen! I rate "Sharknado 6" as I Promise Not To Bring Up The Fact That Nirvana Killed Rock And Roll For The Rest Of The Day. Here you are, you entertained us!

Sorry To Bother You (2018)

Absurd, incisive, funny, insane, unpredictable, Kaufmanesque, and yes, pretentious.

As it ages, it will be seen as a cult classic, perhaps even a classic period.

I enjoyed it.

But I can't say for myself it was a great movie. It's almost like an expensive bottle of wine that tastes funny on the first pour -- you have to let it "open" for a while before making a rash judgment. For creativity and quality of cast --

If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynrd Skynrd (2018)

Flipping channels late last nite, I watched it most of the way through. It had some some good content about the band's feelings on the Confederate battle flag, past and present. A good watch for music lovers.

So so bland ... not at all surprised this was panned when it came out.

Only decent thing about it was Henry Cavill who has a lot of charisma. Hope he starts picking decent scripts soon

are we not cats (2016) 3/5 troubled drifter falls for the right girl when he finds they share a love for eating their own hair. a bit dull at times - any film featuring a woman getting emergency abdominal surgery to have a giant hairball removed should be a bit more lively than this - & undeniably disgusting, but also oddly sweet. i liked it.

It seems like forever since I watched a movie. I saw Farewell My Queen and Queen Margot on Bastille Day weekend which will tell you how long it has been.

Les adieux à la reine / Farewell My Queen (2012) - A look at the platonic relationship between Marie Antoinette and one of her female readers during the first days of the French Revolution.

I like the alternate viewpoint of the French Revolution shown here. Bonus points for being filmed at Versailles. 4/5

La reine Margot / Queen Margot
(1994) - Young Queen Margot finds herself trapped in an arranged marriage amidst a religious war between Catholics and Protestants. She hopes to escape with a new lover, but finds herself imprisoned by her powerful and ruthless family.

At one time this was one of my top five movies ever. I still love it. 4.5/5

How similar is that movie to the art film y'all made me watch? The plot synopsis above sounds a lot like the movie I watched.
