Did I miss the memo on Winchells? I don't like Dunkins, and haven't been to a Krispies in several years even though i think they're great but I do eat donuts fairly regularly(about 10 times a year) mainly Winchells Apple fritters, yet nobody mentioned a chain like Winchells so I'm guessing they screwed up somewhere. Botulism? [Snip - luv4u] Once owed by Jerry Farewell? What?

^^ Winchells got bought by Yum Yum Donuts in 2004. Many old Winchells shops have been taken over by independents, but some have stayed open under the Winchells name. I just read they still have 170 shops in 6 states, not bad, although it seems like there used to be 170 Winchells shops in walking distance of my house!

.

I like to support the local businesses, not a huge fan of Dunkins or KK. Both sweeter than they need to be. There's a donut shop every few blocks around LA, most owned by Asians, and most of them are good. Yum Yum isn't bad as chains go - generally a little better than Winchells IMO.

I will say that Dunkin has pretty good breakfast sandwiches. I'll seek it out at the airport, it's decent and affordable.

Didn't know that. I guess the one I frequent is still an original Winchells. It's so squeaky clean when I go in and there are always plenty of donuts and they are good to me so I guess I really don't venture out much. Never been to Yum Yum Donuts, maybe I'll try them and see if they're better.

neither. I cannot stand the smell of the cooking oil, or the smell of the sugars. the odor of the aforementioned seem to permeate the air inside their locations.
however in this area,of Cali seems krispy kreme has top notch sales.

dunkin donuts (even tho theyre not as good as they used to be)

krispy kreme are undercooked and too raw doughy and the glaze is too wet and sticky...

i hate hot fresh glazed donuts...i prefer the glaze to be a little dry and flaky and maybe even 1 day old...
