Thailand cave rescue: UPDATE: All Have been Rescued

pray pray pray

'Rescuers in Thailand have begun a hazardous operation to lead 12 boys and one adult out of a cave where they have been trapped for two weeks.

The group are stranded on a ledge 4km inside the Tham Luang cave but amid fears of rising waters, officials have decided they cannot wait any longer.

Expert divers who have been keeping the group supplied since they were found last week will guide them out.

Officials have called it D-Day, saying the boys are fit and ready to move.

What is happening at the cave?

A huge volunteer and media operation has built up around the mouth of the cave over the past week.

But early on Sunday, journalists were told they had to move down the road, sparking speculation that a rescue mission was about to begin.

Narongsak Osottanakorn, who has been leading the operation, then confirmed that 18 divers had gone in to get the boys.

"This is D-Day," he said. "The boys are ready to face any challenges." '

Four boys out; it will be 10 to 20 hours before divers can go back in for more rescues. The whole process will take a few days. Monsoons are coming, and the oxygen level plummeted to 15% on Friday, so time is of the essence.

I am happily shocked that any of them are alive. I hope they were able to get food and water and O2 and light to them...

you know after the attack on Pearl Habor they say men were trapped in sunken ships for as long as 2 weeks....

Apparently it's a popular place to explore. The kids had already been in and out of it several times before getting trapped.

I read that as water entered the cave they had to move further in, thus their current situation. I pray they all get out alive!

Yes, that's wonderful progress! However, the names of those saved have yet to be announced and they are still in quarantine at present (in hospital) so the families still don't know whether their child is in or out of the cave... I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for them all. pray

Yes, they were seeking shelter from the rain and as it kept raining, the water rose higher.

However = from the parents' perspective who do not yet know if it was their own child that has come out and who must be going through an agonising wait right now. Especially with all the risks that the operation involves and after the still fresh trauma from the loss of one (experienced) rescue diver. Let's remember that none of these kids can either swim or dive in the first place...

no ifs ands or buts lol the rescue has seen four more boys to safety. woot! hoping the rest will be out soon as well woot! https://abcnews.go.com/In...d=56450198

apparently they they can't hug their parents yet....

While the boys have been rescued from the cave, parents haven't actually gotten a chance to meet with them. The boys are being quarantined due to the fear of infection. Officials did say they were considering allowing the parents to see the boys through a glass partition in the meantime.

The diver, identified as Saman Kunont, was coming back from a spot inside the Tham Luang cave where the group were located on Monday (June 2) when his supplies ran short.

“On his way back he lost consciousness,” said Thai Seal commander Apakorn Yookongkaew, adding that a friend had tried to help bring him out.

The fact that they aren't publishing the kids' names does not mean their parents haven't been notified.

Yes it did, at least at the time I had first mentioned it.

Report: 11th person brought out woot!

An 11th person has been stretchered out of the cave, Reuters reports. It appears that those rescued today are being kept for now at a field hospital in the area - a different approach to previous days, when boys were helicoptered out to a hospital in nearby Chiang Rai as they emerged. https://www.bbc.co.uk/new...e/44755093
