And although I'm not a fan... he was attached to Asia Argento (Dario's daughter)... who posted some photo of herself with a T Shirt a while before this alleged suicide. The shirt read "F*** EVERYONE" with a sub caption "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE"
...maybe alcohol and a breakup? That seems like a venemous womanly thing to be done.... if someone's in an altered state they could very well do themselves out.... saying "see! I cared" in a distorted obseqious way.
I hope that's not the case...but from few facts; that seems the most probable. Intimate dispute
She had just recently given a threatening speech about Weinstein and others in Cannes, and Bourdain also had very recently publicly spoken and supported her about it. Her speech ended with the words 'You know who you are', just like the T-Shirt slogan, followed by: 'But most importantly, WE know who YOU are. And we are not going to allow you to get away with it any longer!'
Suicide rates are rising. I'm guessing that life feels more isolated in the age of the internet, text communication, social media etc. Humans are finding out the poverty of their own existence.
Yeah, I saw that on the news... Clinical depression does not discriminate. Even if someone "gets help" that is not a guarantee against suicide...

There is a cumulative effect in DEPRESSION. The man had an 11 yr old child who he loved dearly. The only thing many of these posts prove is that depression is sorely misunderstood. We had a thread here about it recently. Luv made it a sticky. Not enough interest to keep it going.
It's like school shootings.

Thank you for clearing that up. So there was nothing of the sort (yet) to indicate a relationship matter at the source. Geez. Maybe people these days just would rather consider making their own date.

^Grown people do kill themselves over breakups. Kate Spade was likely most recent. It's important to seek help but end of day it is a personal decision. One guy I knew killed himself on phone during argument with fiancee. He shot himself in his mother's house. Can't blame the fiancee.
What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?
when i first read "Kitchen Confidential" years ago I could sense "It". that type of storytelling
doesn't just happen, that comes from a dark view. but i am as shocked and sadden as anyone.
i am sad that the feeling i got from him from his first book was that from a sad person. i went on
thinking with his subsiquent books and shows thinking that " oh he has gotten a handle on 'IT' ". Sucks. rip.
I agree about the "It". You have to have a certain level of accepting stupidity that hurts people to survive sometimes. Anthony didn't have it. Prince couldn't stomach it either.
Knowing sadness, not sad.

I think the timing of his death is a little odd in relation to the above and seeing how tense Asia looked during her speech. She obviously knew it was a very risky thing to do, throwing those accusations out towards some very influencial people in the room and that would have certainly started making some waves around her and those who supported her. There might be more than what we are being told about his death.

This is such sad news. I always looked forward to seeing what Tony was going to put in his mouth next, I tell ya. He made us engage with cultures through his food adventures and he was damn good at it.
Why would somebody say something weird like what he did was "womanly?" I thought people knew that many more males take their lives than females.
Either way it's sad when people are in so much pain and lose hope. Depression isn't a woman thing.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I´ve been watching his shows for many years and loved them all. He brought us closer to other cultures, his openminded character was so contagious and uplifting, and to me, like Prince, he was one of those humans who make this world a better place. They had a lot in common in that regard.
I am very sad about his death.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
It does sound like he split up with his girlfriend. Asia was seen strolling around with some reporter, holding hands and romantic. They pulled the pictures. Sounds like a suicide over a breakup? He hung himself with bathrobe.
In 2005 a small group of friends and my family were stuck on a tarmac at Chicago International O'Hara airport. We had a flight from Chicago to Brussels that was suppose to take off at 10pm but we didn't take off until 12:00am. My mother and I happen to have the bulkhead seats; across the ailse was this tall lanky dude who started cussing kinda under his breath. This guy voice was so deep, his low tone cussing could be heard through out area... folks chuckled. It was Anthony Bourdain. Of course my mother and I didn't know who he was and wouldn't know until his CNN show... he was that guy.
My mom had packed shoe-box lunches which included, fried chicken, cured ham, deviled eggs, sandwich bread, and a pound cake with caramel sauce, and a big ass Glad bag of assorted nuts. My mom shared our food with our group other passenger's, including Anthony. The grouch had begun to calm down. Anthony thanked my mother, and God, because as he mentioned on his show countless times... he never ate airport food of any kind. Anthony was engaging, talked freely about a number of subjects and was a good listener.

I'm sorry to hear Mr. Bourdain was in pain. My condolences to his family and the friends who loved him deeply.

What a GREAT story. That lunch description is making me hungry! Your mom fed Bourdain - cementing her place in food heaven, no doubt.

He never judged other cultures. He went to Iran and ate pizza with ketchup with kids riding fast in cars. He ate fried chicken with a woman in Saudi Arabia. He told the truth about Vietnam War, said he would like to Kill Henry Kissinger for Cambodia. He went to Africa and had love for the people. He did learn mistakes when he went to Haiti, he ate food, a bunch of people were watching them because they were starving, so bourdain tried to buy some of them food and a near riot happened. Hungry people are desperate. Bourdain learned that politics plays a lot in countries.
