Actress Danai Gurira ("The Walking Dead"), who plays Okoye, the general of the Wakanda warriors known as the Dora Milaje, grew up mostly in Zimbabwe. She said she was "giddy" with "childlike joy" when she understood how Coogler intended to show Africa and its inhabitants like Okoye, the spy Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) and the scientist Shuri (Letitia Wright) — and those are just the women.

"'Black Panther' creates a precedent that kills the ability of folks to misrepresent and distort the continent," Gurira said. "The things that it checks off: Complex African female characters; African language on a big screen; African characters who are varied in many different ways and heroic; The heroism of Africans for themselves and not needing a white hero — go figure — to reach their goals; Celebrating so many specific African cultural-isms. No one can really now try to put forth some product where Africa is seen begging for a white superhero to come and save it."

I thought she sooo looked like Marvel hero Storm

You would think she would know how to fight

I've always thought Marvel or 20th Century Fox rather, missed out on the best opportunity for Storm... Iman! She would have been perfect for Storm back in 2000.

Halle was/is beautiful but she wasn't Storm. Iman would've been the embodiment of Storm. Decent height, slim body, and an authentic accent unlike two poor versions we've seen thus far.

Black Panther's first appearance was in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966.

the movie character made his first appearance in the Capt American Marvel Civil War movie

He looked so much like Batman at that time

Black Panther's first appearance was in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966.

To avoid controversy due to a shared name with the Black Panther Party, Marvel twice changed his name.

First they briefly shortened it to "Panther":

Obviously and thankfully neither of these changes was long-lived.

Black Panther's original costume design SUCKED! So did his original name, Coal Tiger. Luckily, Kirby "went back to the drawing board".

Black Panther had his own animated series that aired on BET in 2011, but I don't recommend it. It was based on an excellent run from the comics but the cheap "animation" sucked. It was more of a "motion comic" than a cartoon. It's available on DVD.

You won't find it listed on PrinceVault, but, back in 2006, Prince played Black Panther & Storm's wedding reception.

it is interesting but most male superheroes have a period where a female fills the role temporarily

Shuri in the movie seemed to be the favorite character out of all.
I can see her and Spiderman being friends lol

That's what I mean, the warrior doesn't know who she is dealing witih.

Dang this picture came out big. eek.

One thing I learned. Do NOT go into the Dolby theater, and get all comfortable reclining in those seats with all that vibration, with 20+ minutes of previews still to live through. I was almost rocked to sleep before the movie started.
