Does this look familiar? 'It's World That Makes The Love Go Round' - Modern Poetry selected from Breakthru International Poetry Magazine, published by Corgi Books 1968.

Yeah, but that whole psychedelic, ying/yang thing was very common in the 60's. I'm only a few years younger than Prince and I remember the sixties motifs very well. I'm sure he did too when he went in that direction with ATWIAD. And the MUSIC continues...forever... |

I was gonna say, this wasn't the first time I've seen stuff like ATWIAD. It was as common as weed, acid, and sit-ins. The art on ATWIAD was very purposeful to the music.

It is not just the art, but the words inspiration too. I am curious to see what the poetry is like inside so I've just ordered a copy of it on Amazon. Life Matters |

Yup, I used to doodle and color in that style all the time as a kid. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

It's still a 60s thing. There was a lot of "love around the world" and "I'd like to teach the world sing....and shower it with love" sort of thing. the hippy free thinkers and peace movers and shakers were universalists. They reached out from the US to not only picket the Vietnam and Korean wars, but embrace the people who happened to look like the people over there. (Today's people could take a nod from that from 9/11 onward, frankly.)
I've no doubt that Prince, as a youngster in the 60s and 70s, was greatly influenced by peace or love sit-ins, or Lennon & Ono's bed-in/love-in. The "open your heart, open your mind" isn't new in his music. It was just concentrated on that album. He'd been a free thinker from day one. ATWIAD is a natural link in the chain.
