I installed the Edge Adblock zip file when I started with Win 10 about a year ago. I use Windows Defender but not Avast. Avast seems to interfere more than help, I've tried it twice. When I stayed in a hotel it went crazy trying to sell me stuff.

If your going to depend on Windows Defender as your anti-virus program, I strongly recommend, a piece of software called SANDBOXIE: https://www.sandboxie.com there's a one time fee, for the life of your computer. Its a powerful program, which runs your programs inside a sandbox, nothing touch's your system itself, and isolating possible malware from infecting your Windows 10 system also. You can sandbox your browser, email, or any program you downloaded from the web. There are bunch of videos on YouTube to show how it works... it not complicated or hard set it up. Give me a check back here if you get it.

Free antivus software for Windows doens't cut it these days... there so much malware/virus shit out there being created daily. What web-browser are you using poppys? Because I'll post some alternative to Microsoft's and Google soon. I'd bite the bullet and purchase antiviral software. But if you want to say with Windows Defender, Sandboxie will offer you a lot of protection, one time purchase for the life of that computer is great.

Thanks for this. I am older and dyslexic so I try to do the simplest thing that works. I am using Edge with EdgeAdblock.v2.1 zip file. I make sure Defender updates every day. Will look into sandboxie. I have used norton and avast in the past, they were both problematic.

Here's a little story. My laptop battery died yesterday. I did the HP battery check, said it was kaput, but still under warranty. So I got on the online chat. They asked lot of questions, redid the test and said indeed it was dead and they would send me a replacement if I sent mine back first (at my expense) and it would also cost $25.

Typed that was totally ridiculous, I can get one on ebay for less than that with free shipping in 3 days, nothing personal to you (the rep). So after a time, he came back and said they were sending me one no charge, by next Wednesday. LOL, you gotta fight for your right to warranty!

It's a detachable battery, they executed the test remotely themselves, so they didn't need it back anyway. Which is the reason they gave when they finally decided to honor their warranty. Made no sense because they knew that in the first place, but I just took the "win" and stopped chatting while I was ahead. Score 1 for getting what you were promised when you bought the thing.

You thought the sales rep was attempting to pull a fast one, didn't ya. If you went to Best Buy, I know why you were looking at him or her side ways.Them folks a BB ain't right most of the time. E-SET doesn't clog up your system, slow it down and E-Set scan is pretty fast. Be that as it may still worth getting, does a damn good job of malware protection and doesn't use much computer resources. I wouldn't use a Windows computer without, Sanboxie. I'm no feelin' the yearly sub thing. I'm glad I'm a Linux user.

Nope. I will do that. Not a fan of Norton, McAfee or Avast so would like to find one I like.

Er - I think you're confused. Linux is not an antivirus, it's a whole other OPERATING SYSTEM!!! Google it!! (or, as discussed Youtube it!) (It's far less prone to viruses than Win, so it'll solve at least ONE of your problems.... )

It was at Microcenter not Best Buy...and they're supposed to be more "tech savvy".

What's a good "free" anti-virus? I downloaded AVG but I keep getting pop-ups begging for the paid subscription.
