That´s technically not a book to screen adaptation. It was the other way around...he wrote the screenplay for the tv series.

I like Salem´s Lot.

Really I never knew that ah well you live and learn its still great though.

This is on the front of my mind because I've watched it recently a few times. This was pretty damned good adaptation. Dolores Claiborne

I've been a big King fan since high school.

I think Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is probably the best one yet. I would venture to say all three of the novellas in the 4-set Different Seasons are well done. Stand By Me was taken from The Body. Apt Pupil had good moments as well.

Delores Claiborne and Misery are both well done, although there is a blowtorch moment left out of the latter if memory serves.

Cujo and Carrie were both well executed, too.

The Shining has its moments of Kubrick brilliance but it also suffered from Kubrick brilliance.

I hate the ones made for TV, mostly. Gerald's Game, Bag of Bones, The Shining (remake), Maximum Overdrive (taken from a Night Shift short story called Trucks). The Langoliers was sort of okay. I forget The Stand.

Half of Hearts of Atlantis is missing. There is a supernatural element to it that was totally removed in the movie. Hopkins performance is what keeps it afloat.

And I know I'm in the minority on this, but I never dug the original IT very much. I did enjoy the 2017 movie version.

There are others I'm forgetting. The mini-series on Hulu about JFK's assassination was really good, but I never read the book. I never watched Under The Dome either, but I probably should.

i think if i keep on typing i'll likely list all of Mr. King's movie/books. some are better than others but in general they are always a satsifying watch. sometimes i dial up "Stephen King" on Prime and watch my way through his movies on a rainy day.

That movie is considered to be the WORST adaptation ever, and it was directed by Mr.King himself. As far as I recall he was high most of the time.

But I love your enthusiasm and the fact that at least someone out there appreciates this movie.

Don't make me choose between The Shawshank Redemption and The Shining ...!!

Stephen King is awesome! I have been a fan of his writing for 40 years. I look forward to each new novel he releases (The Outsider - May 22).

There have been some very good movies and some real clunkers too. My favs are:

The Shining

Shawshank

Misery

Stand By Me

It (the original)

I prefer to read his books though.

I liked the made for TV movie of the short story with the little soldiers ...was it "battleground"


I want to see "the Long Walk" and "The Jaunt" (at least in some form)

It was as good or better than we get from WB with the DC movies. No?

Regardless, the movie is fantastic and an excellent adaption of the original short story.

HELL NO. I would say the CGI in the Mist was more like Sharknado, but the movie was pretty good.

Mine is "the Shining", but I should mention so far I haven't been exposed to that many "King book to screen adaption" yet.

But the worst is "IT" for sure.

The Stand. Favorite all time book. I know many don't like the movie (mini-series?), but I do. Jamie Sheridan is the perfect Randall Flagg. If I remember correctly, there's word out there that it's going to be a re-make.

So many movies made from Steven King novels that I forgot. Some good; some not so good. I remember reading The Dark Tower series in the 90s and being so excited for a sequel that never happened until 2012. Still haven't read it. I heard the movie adaptation wasn't good... I'm still stuck on that subway train, I guess....

I had a fricking dream about SK last night... we were writing a book about the alternative of what happened to the IT kids if the Pennywise had not come. It turned out to be "Stand By Me."

We also talked about how the story starts about the time Prince was born and that there is a little dig at him in the later part of the book.

Bill was in the Thrift store where he finds Silver (his bike) and the radio asks a trivia question to win the "new Prince album" and it says he knew the answer but he did not want the new Prince Album. I assume it was Around the World in a Day (I think later part was set in 1985)
