Shape was my favorite of 2017. I'm happy for Del Toro, who's a wonderful filmmaker, that he took home 2 big prizes. But, there's a chance Get Out, Dunkirk and Billboards will all hold up better over time.
I was thrilled to see Del Toro and Peele take big prizes. In the 2010's minorities (including last night's win for A Fantastic Woman) have taken home Oscars for work in front of and behind the camera, including 12 Years and Moonlight. That's good news for the Academy.
And 2019 will have a very Wakandan flavor. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

What were you confused about? She fell in love with a fish.
Watched the highlights. Kimmel was not funny. Too pc.
Really? I thought she fell in love with A camel.
OF COURSE I know she fell in love with a fish silly.
I was confused on what was so special about the movie. I dont get the hype.

Wow! The Shape of Water for best pic??
I wanted to like that movie but I went to the theater after hearing all the hype and left confused. I dont get what was so stunning about it. It's like a quirky artsy version of Splash.
It's more directly a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The weakest nominee won for original song, and yes I did see the (fairly great) film it was from and am not basing that on that horrendous performance during the ceremony.

Indeed, and it really comes from a not good film like Coco. Mystery Of Love deserved the Oscar. |

90yrs and only ONE Black Actress has won Best Actress...I hope it does not take another 90yrs...Poor Viola was afraid to submit her Phenomenal work in the Best Actress category last year...Her performance wiped out all the supporting nominees in 2017..
It's an old & acceptable Acting/Studio/Academy trick but still not totally fair... |

I love Coco. Great movie. But for sure the music, which should have been its greatest asset because it’s the premise, should have been better. I think a lot of people who love the movie agree that the music was its weakest aspect. |

her turn in Fences was the defining performance in a strong year.

Ratings were terrible because most people didn't see the movies nominated.

So you want to bring back Ellen DeGeneres as host? 2014 ratings for the show when she was on were very high.

I thought Kimmel's bits last year bringing the tour group through the Oscars and this year, bringing the stars to the theatre, were magic, and two of the best Oscars moments in memory. We could use a little more of that.

There are also alot of non-conservatives that are tired of it too. |
