License To Be A Bitch (workplace fuckery) So my friend/roommate comes home today in a really bad mood. He works for a major national eyecare provider. He is in the call center and takes in-bound calls from doctors and customers. "Yes, but I don't like the frames." "You don't like the Ray-Ban frames themselves, not the lenses." "That's what I said. I don't like the fucking frames I bought from Ray-Ban." "You need to call Ray-Ban about that. That is not something we can take care of for you." "Well, I know that what is the fucking number to Ray-Ban?!" "Sir, we are not directly associated with Ray-Ban. You should call wherever you bought them from." "You know, I hope one of your kids grows up and murders seven or eight kids at a school shooting!" :::click:::
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Some people are just plain AHs. I hope your friend is ok.

My friend used to work in Eircom, Ireland's biggest telephone and broadband provider, and some of the things that was said to him over the years would actually drive a person to murder. I'd never be cut out for that line of work. I'd end up finding the persons address and going to their house, where I'd likely do something that would lead to me being arrested. Some of the things that my friend has heard over the years include: "I hope you die from cancer" "I hope your children are all stillborn" And there's been worse than that. He was also threatened multiple times when customers told him they'd be waiting outside for him after work. Nobody ever followed through though and he's a big guy so if they did, he'd probably kill them on the spot but it's still a stupid thing to say to someone who's trying to help you. And the thing is, these things were all said by people with very minor problems. The one who said she hoped his children were stillborn was complaining about a 2 euro price increase which she had been advised of a month prior. All this just confirms my theory that most humans are just horrible people.

Wow. I've also done that kind of work, but it's never been that bad. Sometimes people get angry, but often they will say something like "I know it's not your fault, but..." I think people who get so upset are people who know they're wrong. That guy knew he should be calling Ray-Ban and didn't want to admit it. And then he gets angry. But how somebody can get so angry as to say something like that is beyond me.

People become very bold and turn into assholes when they're on the phone or internet. Tell your friend not to give it another thought. Don't let the assholes ruin your day, there are far too many of them.

People can be total dicks. But its just a job, nothing to get hung about so probably overreacting and finding out where the call in dicks live in prder to track them down and kill them might be taking the job just a wee bit too seriously. Your pal should let that shit go as its clearly not a high level post to begin with and not worth the trouble of stress

Cus or Cuss as in to use profanity... it is a play on the first part of "customer." Like customers make you want to cuss... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

He's good. It was easily one of the worst moments he'd ever had on the phone. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Record all calls. Use a program that not only records the call, but records the caller's information. Then report callers like that to the appropriate authorities.

check with your state's laws. it is illegal in some states to record without notifying them. In some states, you do not have to. One problem if someone borrows your phone you should deactivate it. [Edited 3/2/18 12:23pm] "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

It has to be said that the caller didn't do anything illegal. What he said was stupid and hateful, but... There's no laws against being stupid and hateful...

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
