The one in "The Cost of Living" The higher, the fewer.

I liked when Troi's mother kept calling Worf Mr. Woof. Don't know what The higher, the fewer meant. I vaguely remember this episode. It's one of those episodes I only saw once.

The higher, the fewer, is one of things a character in the program says a lot, like philosophers of old. It's supposed to be a place of artist freethinkers and such.

Note, I picked the relaxing hologram programs, none of those battle, or mountain climbing ones.

I hate to say this but I honestly think the ST universe has been expanded as far as it can go without too much more alteration when it comes to big budget ideas. I mean since the original visionary has passed on. From here it's just people riding a marketable formula while trying to wedge in their new ideas. I can't think of many storylines that keep getting a makeover.

No. How do I say this without a ton of words?

There's a difference in a creator expanding on their idea as the technology changes, it's another thing to just keep riding a idea but wanting to change it because others want to show off aspects of their technical skills. Most of the ST incarnations were implemented by Gene in some way, even with their changes they were still parts of his mythology, storyline or vision I guess you could say.

I don't see how anymore on ST can be done beyond the fans keeping certain aspects going that inspire them. Anyone else has to start changing it's mythology, then it's no longer Star Trek but a marketing tool. It becomes lazy regurgitated storytelling with lots of flash and randomly shoved-in current popular culture norms.

Star Trek has done a lot for inspiring the tech world and individuals to doing a multitude of things. I'm not sure if any phenomena has done anywhere the same, so I can see not wanting to let it go. But does it really inspire individuals to reach beyond what they can see or what is sitting right in front of their face anymore? Or is it flashy just enough to make people want to buy a similar gadget at the next gift giving occasion?

Again most of what is happening now is about displaying the current tech advances in film making as opposed to expanding the entire vision.

The problem, the ST franchise already has a willing audience. Easy target. Most space themed scifi's don't pack anywhere near as big as a punch. Not worth the effort in creating a different mythology under a different name.

Still ended up using more words than I intended and still not sure if I expressed my point.

OK, pretty deep there. Well maybe with virtual reality on the rise again maybe it will inspire some one to come up with a real life hollowdeck, or even transporter.

No, science fiction.

From IMDB: "An anthology series exploring a twisted, high-tech world where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide."

[Edited 1/1/18 17:37pm]

But, unfortunately, in some cases, not really far-fetched science fiction. Black Mirror is absolutely essential, must-watch TV for me. Especially if you're interested in technology or modern media consumption and communication in general.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

Again each of those are part of Gene's vision. What in the new editions is inspiring the young to think forward?

If they really want to introduce new technologies, they should stop doing new shows and movies set in the continuity's past and move things forward. We need a Next Next Generation (with a better name of course). Let's see starfleet 100 years in the future from TNG/DS9/VOY.

Agreed, but would have it set 17 years after TNG/DS9/VOY (Yes I want lots of cameos from those shows).

Ooops, your right, just thought in terms of making it a reality, like how we have cd's/dvd/bluray and cell phones based off of Genes vision. No real new vision from JJ Abrams except to blow up Vulcan and to make Sulu gay. Discovery contribution is to say Fuck, wow, how we came a long way. Not exepecting much from Q.Tarantino except swearing, hip dialog, and them walking in slow motion.

I agree with you djT, but I'm sure it would immediately lose half it's audience because it would technically be a new show. But in essence that's what needs to be done. But it would require a massive imagination. That takes too much time. But it's what's missing from the franchise, the minds that looked way ahead. That was the original ST addiction.

And I'd love to see some cameos from the other shows.

I'm almost done with season 6 of TNG then onto season 7. Once I'm done with TNG then I'm watching DS9. I know I missed at least 3 episode, one is a baseball game episode, one where they shrink to a really small size, and one where Mourn may or may have not died (don't tell me anything) I know alot of episodes I may have only seen once over 20 years ago. Bought the box set for DS9 and Voyager on Amazon and should get them Monday.

The baseball game is an amusing one, seeing Odo as umpire. I know I wouldn't want to play against a team of Vulcans.

Morn is the funniest non-speaking character I know. I get the warm and fuzzies about all the DS9 characters, well maybe not Kai Winn or Dukat, but I appreciate what they brought to the show.

Awesome about you boxsets. Savor them.

Star Trek actor Jon Paul Steuer dies, aged 33

Star Trek actor and punk musician Jon Paul Steuer has passed away at just 33 years old.

Jon Paul Steuer, who was also known as Jonny Jewels, is believed to have died on New Year's Day (January 1), but the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Paying tribute to their 'singer and friend', Steuer's band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. released a statement on Facebook confirming the sad news on Wednesday (January 3).

"The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made, and he brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did.

"He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer."

As well as being a prominent force in the punk scene in the US, Steuer is best known for his work as a child actor, starring in the likes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Little Giants and '90s sitcom Grace Under Fire.

Despite quitting acting at the age of 12, Jon Paul Steuer won fans with the first portrayal of Klingon Alexander Rozhenko – Worf and Ambassador K'Ehleyr's son – in The Next Generation.

Steuer went on to star in the popular series Grace Under Fire as Quentin Kelly, but soon quit the show after growing uncomfortable with the negative press attention directed at the show's lead star Brett Butler.

In an interview with The AV Club in 2015, Steuer admitted that he "wanted to forge on with acting after quitting the show", but the industry's attitude towards his past put him off.

"I was kind of blown away by how unprofessional people inside the industry were," he admitted. "It really soured me. I didn't want that kind of attention."

Later that year, Steuer opened a vegan restaurant in Portland, Oregon called Harvest at the Bindery.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Reunion

“DS9” allowed “Trek” writers the chance to delve into that conflict like never before. Over the course of its run, the show tackled complex subject matter including the ethics of war, faith, cultural identity and the often subtle distinction between a freedom fighter and a terrorist in dark and surprising ways that the previous two series had not.

“I don’t think it was a coincidence that [‘DS9’s’ storytelling style] coincided with Ira Behr’s ascendancy,” says series star Alexander Siddig, who played Dr. Julian Bashir. “I think the great Michael Piller had an idea of where he wanted to go with the narrative, but it took the combination of Michel and Ira to really gel that. And Rick Berman was a great yes man. Any idea he thought was good, he would say, ‘Yes, try that.’ Rick broke the mold. He was the ultimate boss because he let Michael and Ira really try something pretty controversial at the time.”

Yeah, I know I kept waiting for the episode where they'd figure out how to get them off that planet but it never came, she made an appearance once in a while though, which is weird because she wasn't officially dead, kind of.
