Might as well at least acknowledge it, it's my neck of the woods. SoCal fires.

Southern California wildfires burn with little containment as conditions worsen.

Yeah, it's been dry and windy.

Hope folks are staying safe.

People are being evacuated well, saving lives, some evacs being lifted people going home but so many homes didn't survive. I'm seeing a lot about Del Mar Racetrack taking in horses a lot of ranches at risk.

My prayers for all the folks in So-Cal; I hope they will be spared what those I knew in Nor-Cal had to go through...

I live in So Cal as well, but not directly near the fires. The closest fire to me was the Rye fire in Santa Clarita/Valencia, as I live in the Antelope Valley. I pray so many who are affected stay safe and evacuate if they have to. So many people who have been affected in other areas, have lost homes and everything else, and it is just so sad now, given that it's the holidays.

No, the one that was close was contained relatively fast. After 2003 & especially 2007 they go nuts about fires here.

A few years back some knucklehead set a fire in the canyon behind one of the "hood" high schools, I could have swore they sent in the national guard and swat team too they were on it so fast, those water-dropping helicoptors were everywhere it seemed. They don't play these days.

I'm in SoCal too; these fires make me nervous. We did get a few sprinkles here the other day, so hopefully things will settle-down now. I'm from the east coast, so I'm not used to this stuff. Hurricanes I can handle, but fires are so unpredictable and scary. It breaks my heart to hear about the animals (horses) that couldn't be saved. sad

Born and raised SoCal so I used to not think about them because they were something that happened way out in the boonies, very few lived out there. Now a lot of neighborhoods are in those boonies it's become a major issue, they can spread inland rapidly which is what happened in 2007, nobody was ready for that.

I've never been in a hurricane, I don't think I'd fare to well, all that crap blowing every which way.

Yes; the fires only get worse with all the urban sprawl.
