Overall, I really liked it. Much better than A New Hope Awakens. But it has its flaws. I thought it had some really great images and moments, for example when the Resistance ship launched into Hyperdrive and destroyed the ships (but that dumb ass idiot commander could really have thought of that before hundreds of people died). I like Rey, I think most of the humour worked, the lightsaber battles were great. And I liked that it really tried to defy expectations. I also mostly liked the story of Luke - I did NOT see them killing him off. I thought it was a nice touch, that the plan with the hacker actually did not work out, but that part just went on too long (but then again it led to that really nice last scene). Not sure about the new remote-Jedi trick, but okay. I also like Kylo-Ren but I think it's problematic, that his anger and conflict just isn't explained at all. That's a major issue. They basically just say, because Snoke. But that doesn't work, because Snoke isn't even a shell of a character, it's ridiculous. That was a real disappointment. 7/10, I guess.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

Isn't part of the King Auther mythos that the original Sword gets broken and that is when he gets Excallaber? And Mark Hamill has referred to his lightsaber as Excallaber like and he would pass it on... so the image of Rey holding Luke/Annikin's broken lightsaber was really cool.

My nephew, who has read most if not ALL the EU novels told me that Luke was able to project himself like that and was the only Jedi that could! AND in the movie part of his projection (the dice) lingered well after he 'passed.'

I did not ask if he could fight and interact with physical things or not...but if he can do that alive he can do that 'dead.' (there were also times that Obi-Wan or Yoda helped luke... at least in some of the drafts... and it is alluded to in ROTJ. )

And of course, Luke being dead doesn't affect his being a major character in IX. It is likely that Rey has no idea that he can pay her a visit. AND the connection Rey has with Kylo seems intact...

I did not like the trip to Canto Bight...but now that I think about it and the connection to Rose and the broom boy... something tells me it will play a major role in IX....

Luke doesn't understand R2.. in the cockpit, there is a display that shows what R2 is saying... once they land there is no point were Luke seems to unsdertand him... and again in RotJ R2's words are displayed on a screen.

Kylo is reckless and full of himself... that is for sure. What is weird wouldn't feel that it was not really Luke?

I have a MUCH bigger issue with the entire Astral Projection than Kylo being full of himself.

What the hell are you talking about? We never see a display with R2's bleeps and blips interpreted
for Luke's understanding in The Empire Strikes Back.

YES we do! I am watcing now! There is a screen that shows it... Luke clearly reads it..

At the 0:32 mark, R2 "says" something. Luke responds with "I know, I know." There is nothing
in that exchange which indicates Luke looked at a monitor for interpretive purposes.

The Screen is in front of Luke he can easily read it

Again, at the 1:33 - 1:34 mark, R2 bleeps again, and Luke responds.

R2 is getting out of the socket and Luke sees this and tells him to stay...

Or, we can simply chop this
up to Lucas not being consistent with his own damn story, which is not unlikely.

No one other that other robots could ever understand R2 in the OT...

Minor thing... But the X-Wing in the water is one of the new models and not the same one from the OT

I’d expect that. His self imposed exile to achto took place closer in time to the new trilogy than the old so he’d more likely have a later model vehicle. I’m not driving the same car I was 20 years ago.

I do wonder if he knows how to fly anything else though. Seems odd to take a starfighter on a trip like that.

Okay I watched it again today (partly because the 3D projection was dismal) in crisp bright 2D.

I had my doubts about this a and especially with the writer director of Brick and Looper (didn’t like those)... but

As Prince sang once, I have to “bow down...” and surrender my rod. It’s a complicated, meaningful, exciting, and thrilling success! I really like it.

They don’t need droids to fly it. The droid assist with repairs. Apparently they also take care of navigation for light speed trips so either Luke didn’t need one because he knew where he was going or he was able to use the force for navigation or he took another R2 unit for nav purposes.

My only disappointment with the Luke story arc is that his story ends with a major loose end.

He never made it to Tosche Station to pick up those power converters!

Finn says "we have to take out that cannon." That's what Kathleen Kennedy said "We've got to take out this canon."

I also think Luke's hoody sweater, or whatever it was, looks like chainmail... and he looks a lot like one of the old Knights old movies...

Yeah. From the point of view of the audience, most of the main heroes survived but as a battle, the resistance were trounced. All the survivors of the resistance escaped on the Millenium falcon. The First Order was hurt bad but have huge resources and are now free to expand massively under a new supreme leader. The resistance will need a long time to get new recruits and rebuild.

Yes BB-8 being understood was odd but it was well established that humans could not understand R2 (even if it would have been easy to make it so he was)

and I agree maybe there should be a 10 year gap! the timeline between TFA and TLJ seemed off... as they did not seem to be in a rush to get off world at the end... but is it true that Poe and Rey never meet? Weird...

Anakin understood R2 in the prequels and the Clone Wars series. And he wasn't the only character who could understand R2 either. So it was actually well established that human characters COULD understand R2 so it's only normal Luke would have learned to understand in the years between ROTJ and The Last Jedi.

Besides, why would anyone create a droid that can never be understood anyway? The droids most likely have their own language which some human characters understand and some do not. That's why Rey understands BB8 and Finn doesn't. IF Luke didn't know what R2 was saying in the original trilogy, he does now. And it isn't a big deal.
