I think cunt is considered so shocking because the only time it seems to be used is to degrade.

It's been used to degrade someone by calling them a cunt.

It's been used to refer degradingly to a woman's vagina.

It's gotten a bad rap, and therefore has turned into a nasty word.

It's all in how it's been used...it's really an innocent word, really. biggrin

It's much better than cunt... overuse of the word, I admit. Ahhh, the irony wink

I don't use this word.. mainly because it seems like a weird word to pronounce.. very.. "gutteral". Plus, I am aware that most women don't like this word, which of course I could understand.

The French word for this is "con", (pronounced like "cone", but without really pronouncing the "n" sound)
& they use this word to describe someone who is really dumb, as in "quel con" = "what an idiot".

In fact, that's what I usually say:

"what an IDIOT"

& I emphasize "idiot" as much as I believe it's necessary.

It would probably be "shocking" to some if I said something like:

"I would literally rather have 1 on the tip of my tongue than have the word come out of my mouth"

so I won't even say that..!
I'll see you tonight..

what do you think of this ace of curses and why is it considered so offensive?

I think you nailed it, by saying it sounds "gutteral". It is this unpleasant sound to it that, I believe, makes people offended. The word is just plain unpleasant to hear, and I don't think that something so wonderful should be descibed with something that has a negative sound to it.

Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)
