PrintableI think cunt is considered so shocking because the only time it seems to be used is to degrade.
It's been used to degrade someone by calling them a cunt. It's been used to refer degradingly to a woman's vagina. It's gotten a bad rap, and therefore has turned into a nasty word. It's all in how it's been used...it's really an innocent word, really. 
It's much better than cunt... overuse of the word, I admit. Ahhh, the irony  | |

I don't use this word.. mainly because it seems like a weird word to pronounce.. very.. "gutteral". Plus, I am aware that most women don't like this word, which of course I could understand.
The French word for this is "con", (pronounced like "cone", but without really pronouncing the "n" sound) & they use this word to describe someone who is really dumb, as in "quel con" = "what an idiot". In fact, that's what I usually say: "what an IDIOT" & I emphasize "idiot" as much as I believe it's necessary. It would probably be "shocking" to some if I said something like: "I would literally rather have 1 on the tip of my tongue than have the word come out of my mouth" so I won't even say that..! I'll see you tonight..

what do you think of this ace of curses and why is it considered so offensive? It jus' sounds very crude... other terms sound alot better   c***   JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

I think you nailed it, by saying it sounds "gutteral". It is this unpleasant sound to it that, I believe, makes people offended. The word is just plain unpleasant to hear, and I don't think that something so wonderful should be descibed with something that has a negative sound to it.
