His books are always better than the movies. I don't watch a lot of his movies because I never seem to find them as interesting and engaging as his books always are.

Technically they're not his movies, because he sold the rights to it. There are times he's written a screenplay or had input, but in general I find King has not found overall satisfaction with how Hollywood has interpreted his books into movies. He did endorse the new IT movie, though. Some movies are much better than others, of course. Carrie, Cujo, The Shining, Cristine, - it seems the earlier stuff got better treatment. Other things like Bag of Bones or Hearts of Atlantis get either shitty made-for-tv treatment, or the supernatural element is removed completely (respectively).

I'd say majority of the earlier movies of his books are pretty decent, but as time passed the movies tend to be less than satisfying.

Apparently you're not a writer...

Agreed. There is not a lot of money in being a writer. You either get on Oprah's Book Club, or possibly even as a NY Times Best Seller (even that is iffy as far as money goes), or you sell the rights to your books and possibly negotiate part of the back end too. King is successful as a writer, and rightly so. But he's making more money either on advances and/or the movie studios buying the rights to a book.

I finally released my book a couple of days ago in paperback and digital. While I'm super happy it's done and out and I'm already onto the next project, I don't expect any great monetary reward in sales. And granted I'm an indie author who self-published (which still costs money) even if I was on Random House or Penguin there's no guarantee of a big payday.

Writer's write what they know and because they love it. Not because they want that new BMW.
