Oh great now Disney doing it to

Disney will pull its movies from Netflix and start its own streaming services

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/08/disney-will-pull-its-movies-from-netflix-and-start-its-own-streaming-services.html

So now for everything you want to watch you have to pay for every channel you want to watch it on.

Well that's one way to make me go back to serious reading.

Amazon will still give us access to the Disney channel if and when we want access and it will cost less than signing up for the Disney channel. Its all good. Netflix needs the competition

I have no issues with competition with Netflix, that's the way it should be. But if every single show or movie you like you have to pay a subscription for each production company's channel, that's taking serious advantage of consumers. That's like have to pay a subscription to every store to walk in to it. Sure there were a few like that but imagine if you had to pay a monthly fee to walk in to every store to buy laundry detergent. Now this store doesn't carry the brand of laundry soap you like but it carries the hand sanitizer you like, so on and so forth.

Wait I got that wrong. It would be every brand opens it's own store and you had to pay a monthly fee to be a member of that brand's store. So every single brand you like and use you have to pay a subscription to that store before you could go in and purchase the product, at a mark down on the product of course. You use 20 brands you're paying 20 monthly fees to go into the store.

Yeah, but (I think) eventually all the shows you like will become accessible thru Amazon, you're not paying each individual production company a monthly fee for access to their shows. $10 a pop really adds up. and then after a couple of years that $10 increases yearly.

Now it could be that Netflix ticked Disney off and Disney gave them the finger, but I would think if they're starting their own channel they will pretty soon make it so that you can only access their stuff through their channel.

I have nearly everything the studio's ever made on blu ray (Except the stuff that hasn't been issued yet), but depending on how much content they have this will be a good deal for parents of multiple kids.

It's possible Netflix could have ticked off Disney, but I think they saw how much money Netflix and Amazon were making with their streaming services, saw their own library of movies and cartoons, and thought they could and should easily be streaming their own content for cash. Consider that they own some of the biggest movies in history, ones that are seen multiple times by the average family, and they could seriously rake in huge bucks. (Imagine some parents letting their precious child watch Snow White, Cinderella, Toy Story, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, or Inside Out ad nauseam.) Consider the possibility of adding Marvel and Lucasfilm properties in the future and that they are also going to stream ESPN, and this could be huge.

*too

Disney has a massive, MASSIVE back catalogue of movies and shows that people are clammering too see commerical free whenever they want. They have thousands of hours of material that has never been re-released, only released in those expensive limited edition tin cans, or shown on the Disney channel packed with commercials equal to the length of the program.

Per channel/network pay TV is the future. I could cancel my Comcast, order Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and the new CBS channel (for Star Trek yo!) and still only be paying half what I'm paying now.

Honestly, it's not like I've watched all that much Disney on Netflix to begin with but there is no way a handful of channels it going to cover all the various things I enjoy, no freakin' way. I spread my viewing around too much. And that little thing about that deal for the first 2 years, then each channel starts charging more and more every year. Yeah 40 different corporate bloodsuckers attached to ones bank account/credit card doesn't sound too good.

One of the many reasons my $ still goes to DVD & Bluray instead of streaming services. I'd rather have my own library than be subject to the whims of ever changing licensing agreements.

Apple just appointed a head of original programming for their future streaming service. Expect $287 billions dollars worth of new original content from them in 2018.

And to think that's just coming from one single streaming service for one productions company. This is the kind of money being generated from the average American consumer. And it will continue.

Y'all are aware that streaming is MASSIVELY successful, right? New streaming platforms wouldn't continue to be created seemingly every week if there wasn't money to be made. Comcast forced this to happen, too. With their overpriced, crap service.

Oh I know, but the money is coming from the consumer which mean people are finding major money to pay to watch tv to make other people/corps extremely rich. There is a significant irony in that. I think for myself I need to draw a line and get off the train.
