LMSW - I'm a case manager supervisor/trainer/QA. I work with elderly and disabled individuals, providing services that will our clients to remain in the home rather than going into a nursing home facility.

I would rather stay in my own home. I find that nursing homes are places that elderly are put to die.

I agree. I used to work hospice and we'd have some patients that were in nursing homes. I NEVER want to stay in a nursing home.

The program I work for, all the services we offer are paid for through Medicaid, so our clients are Medicaid recipients, low income, and would not be able to afford the cost of a nursing home. Research has shown, too, that by keeping individuals in the home it costs less on the government than if they go into a nursing home. Due to the lower cost, we're saving tax payers money, too. So, all you tax payers? You want to give me a raise? Or reward me for saving you money....I'll tell you where to send the checks. wink lol

I've done volunteer work in last-resort state run nursing homes in two states. It left me downright terrified of ever reaching a point of being sent to one. Were I able, I believe I'd literally kill myself first if that were my only end of life option. That's how horrifying I find them. I'm all over programs for keeping people home.

I work at a research institution with students from the nearby campus (and elsewhere). I am within a writing laboratory and I teach students to write essays or theses. I sometimes reach out to other communities, not just students, with consultancy.

...in case anyone was curious bout what I MEANT up there - I'm kind of scared what's gonna happen to the world after Fiber, ie. high speed internet, hits every corner of it.... WE, over here, should be getting ours in a matter of weeks now....
