gas is a pain in the Dallas area... but I have gotten gas a since the long lines... i got some early in the morning with no problem (other than it is 20 cents more now). But at other times I have seen LONG lines! and stations with no gas.

I thought you were in NOLA? Karian did not hit NOLA... what happened was the title surge broke the levees thanks in part to Ray Nean mishandling funding and generally neglecting them and totally botching the before and after handling of the storm.

So who won? Personally, I'm on your side. It's not going to be pretty going back, or smell very good either. I guess since the water receded fairly fast, you may be able to save the frig? That was a huge problem for us, thousands of them on the curb, ugh.

The other thing about carrying all that gas, your carrier is basically a bomb if anything runs into it.

My experience: I rode out a hurricane in Maryland (maybe 75), One in Alabama 76?. Floods in Key West (80) and Galveston 82, 2 hurricanes in Galveston maybe 83(slept through it) and 84 (I think that was mostly south of me)? I had a house full following both Katrina and Ike. I will put my experience up against anyone.

A cat 5 in the Eastern Caribbean does not mean it will be a 5 if it hits Florida. Vigilance is of course required. I evacuated the day before Katrina with a dog, a cat, 4 saxophones and a couple of guitars, and my mother's antique dishes. Never regretted it even though I didn't see my house for 6 weeks, or know the damage. Got power a few days after we got back. The I-10 underpass near my house was still flooded. No grocery stores, they stunk for miles- all the food was still in there with NO power all that time.

Last year I think it was the sexuality thread that got us through hurricane season, babynoz.

My son's company is sending him to another state to work for the duration. They will pay for the family to go if I can get off work in time. My youngest is being stubborn as usual.

This sucks.

The other familly member flat out refused to leave the house and is riding out the storm, (smh), so I am safe but fighting off anxiety attacks worrying about loved ones.

I could really use some prayers and good thoughts right about now.

I haven't heard from my best girlfriends in Miami in 3 days and I don't know whether they got the heck out of Dodge or not. Having survived the mess that was Andrew in 93(?), sending prayers for the safety, good health, and perseverence of all affected by the storm. Whatta freakin' storm season , huh?

...and in other news here across the pond we're watching the footage of Tuscany going through a freak flash flood, flooded to hell and back, and seeing the film footage, good Lord. Mother Nature is trippin' with all this destruction
