Crud, we have what's supposed to be a Category 3 hurricane heading our way. Tropical Storm Harvey is supposed to strengthen a bunch in the next 36 hours, and it could drop 20 inches of rain on us over the next few days.

I wish I was still on that mountain in New Mexico.

Damn... I visited Galveston in the early 80s when they were rebuilding from the damage; the whole sea wall was wiped out. Nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there...

I'm really pissed right now. Everyone in my family except me thinks this is a whole bunch of crap about nothing. The last time we all thought this, Hurricane Ike killed my wife's grandmother. I'm pretty f***ing frustrated right now.

I hope everyone will be safe indeed. I'm told they've been evacuating people all the way from Brownsville to Beaumont in Texas, and that it's expected to hit Corpus the hardest.

Yeah, the most-seen projection is having it hit Corpus. But that dang projections shows Harvey bee-lining it from the Gulf to Corpus, while my 58-year experience with Gulf of Mexico hurricanes is that they almost always make a north turn right before landfall. If that happens, Harvey gets close to, or even right upon, good old Houston, Texas. That's what worries me.

They say that there's low pressure and high pressure systems surounding us, and that will "trap" Harvey over the Gulf Coast. Rain predictions range from 7 inches to over 20 inches, although they think the rain will fall over a period of 4 days. If it's spread out like that, I'd hope our drainage system can handle it without too much problem.

One thing that I don't like is that the most-popular landfall projection seems to be EXACTLY the same as the landfall that Hurricane Carla made in 1961. That one beat the crap out of us, but it was a Category 5.

At any rate, fingers are crossed. I'll know within 24 hours if I'm staying here or bugging out to Dallas or somewhere.

Catastrophic event. Unprecedented. Entire city flooded, including my house. All roads closed. Twenty or so more inches of rain may be headed to the city. Harvey predicted to go back out into the Gulf of Mexico, do a U-turn, and head right up Houston's butt.

We bugged out Friday evening and thank God we did. Made it to Dallas, stayed with friends and then boogied to Hot Springs, Arkansas yesterday. Doing my best to convince the ladies we need to go to our mountain house/office in New Mexico and I think I've finally - FINALLY - convinced them it's the thing to do.

We need to be open for business tomorrow, and we can open as long as we have internet and phones. We aren't going to have any employees for awhile, as they've all lost their homes/will be losing their homes if the weather forecast is correct.

Pray for everyone in Houston. This is a catastrophe and might get much, much worse.

Thanks y'all. We're currrently driving through Oklahoma, headed to New Mexico. But my son is stuck in Houston. They MIGHT be able to get out but I doubt it.

I just found out a friend died last night down in Dickinson (just south of Houston). I don't know how he died. He was wheelchair-bound but in great shape. He worked out at our gym every morning. I don't know if he drowned, or if stress got him, or what. All I know is that I'm devastated.

Army Corps of engineers call this a once-in-a millenium flood. Two dams west of Houston have partially broken so now they're going to release the water. That will completely flood downtown Houston. You ain't seen nothing yet.

The main waterway downtown is Buffalo Bayou. It recently underwent a tremendous renovation program and was designed to withstand a 1,000-year flood.

It won't withstand Harvey.

The news is not good. They opened the reservoirs to take some pressure off to try to save downtown. PTSD from Katrina over here. The cajun navy has shown up I see.

Thoughts and prayers for Rodeo and his family. That is a terrible storm. I have friends that I have not heard from since storm and it is scaring the shit out of me.

THIS Hurricane Katrina survivor knows exactly what you're going through. But remember, material things can be replace, but not your human life. You will bounce back from this. It might take a few months or a few years, but you will bounce back.

And you better get plenty of FEMA money! Real talk, you need all of whatever financial support that you can get.

The main problem is the concrete sprawl. Note to city planners.
