these are probably the movies i've gone back to the most over the years, and if any of them popped up on a streaming service right now, i'd sit and watch it happily.

not all of them are great or timeless movies (though i'd definitely make a case for at least two of them, maybe three), but there's a difference between favourite and best, and i'll always have room in my heart and time in my life for the occasional bit of trash.

Two of these just played again at American Cinematheque, Last House On The Left played with MANIAC and that crap CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, and Beyond The Valley of the Dolls just played at the Aero, with starlet Dolly Read stopping by for Q&A...i got her to sign my Playboy playmate book (182 autographs and counting: i intend to get as many for this dead fella that compiled most of them) ..i never liked it on dvd, but seen on a big screen with a crowd made a big difference. I've always wanted to see AFTER HOURS on a big screen. ..AND the rough cut 4 hrs....if it still exists. U ever notice slight discrepancies in sequence? ....I've seen that movie probably more than any

hmmm, i can't recall any major sequence flubs off the top of my head, but i'm usually not too observant when it comes to things like that. if you have the time (or a link), i'd like to hear them. i'm due for a re-watch anyway, & it would be fun to keep an eye open for any miscues.

Damn Yankees is the only one I've seen, and it's probably the least well known. It's really good though.

this is one of the few movies i've ever sat down to watch and turned it off before the end...i've never really like griffin dunne. maybe i'll have to give it another shot. 'mean streets' is a slog, too...

Damn Yankees is the only one I've seen, and it's probably the least well known. It's really good though.

I love the film and the soundtrack.....a musical about baseball with Bob Fosse choreography, what's not to like this number is Everthing.

But for me... MEAN STREETS is literally AS GOOD and AS IMPORTANT as ANY film in Scorsese's career. Just simply an early masterpiece that I could literally watch once a month and not get tired of (I don't think at least, I've never tried watching it that often).

i appreciate 'mean streets' as a good film, and i guess i kinda like it. it's just not a very stimulating experience to watch it, maybe?

i've read a bit about 'after hours' since you posted it...seems worthy of a re-watch. it's been years, and i have been working my way through his oeuvre since the release of 'silence', so maybe my opinion will differ now.

There are dozens of them, I find Scorsese movies comforting:

Casino
Goodfellas

The Departed

Star Wars films are comforting, even the nearly unwatchable I and II.

I also have my go-to movies by season and traditional movies I watch around the holidays.

For example, in the summer I watch Boogie Nights, Do The Right Thing, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Troy and others.

And these aren't movies, but I often watch the "Pottery Will Get You Nowhere" episode of The Wonder Years or "The Music Box" episode of Little House on the Prairie when I want to feel better. They always work, too.
