Unsupervised kids in stores question...

How do you handle watching children, especially pre-teen aged, off to themselves, in grocery stores especially, either being destructive to packaging or stealing, while their parents are god-knows where? Maybe the parents are those people standing up the aisle, maybe they are on the other aisle, you personally have no way of knowing for sure whose child it is.

Usually a glare has worked, the kid leaves whatever it is they are bothering and walks away, but kids are getting bolder, the glare is less effective. And these stray children are increasing in number. It use to be some random child now it seems like half the children in the store are just wandering doing as they please. Does reporting them seem fair?

Reporting them to shop staff or they're parents (assuming you can find them) seems fair enough to me. Personally though, I tend to just leave them to it and mind my own business. Neither option is right or wrong, and sometimes it might help for the parents to know what little bastards their children are, but there are other times when reporting them can only lead to more trouble.

I feel I should do something but I don't want to turn kids in for being kids but at the same time, one: too many are starting to push the envelope as they see other kids getting away with it, two: parents may be in on it because people usually ignore kids so kids make an excellent shields. And here I am with a grandson who sees everything including my reactions and I know he does. There was a time when a simply shake of the head was enough to send a kid on back to their parents side.

I like that. Wouldn't do it but it's a funny thought.

But I think I'll be ghetto about it depending which store it is and be loud when I see it. Hate getting the authorities over some preztels or something like that.

Ha! I watched it all the way through. I do not blame the guy especially if his mom was standing right there. I think some parents want that kind of stuff to happen to their kids, way of the world lessons.
