And....sorry again, but I just noticed you were referring to Mayweather, not Mc Gregor in your post above.
Sooooo.....what makes McGregor such a detestable person?
Perhaps "detestable" is a strong word for McGregor. He's a loud, obnoxious smartass but as far as I know, he's never hit women like Mayweather has. But I do detest loud, obnoxious smartasses that I guess by definition McGregor is "detestable". But not in the way that Mayweather is.
I agree the rules put McGregor at a seeming disadvantage. I have to think there were two reasons McGregor agreed to fight under these rules: (1) he's supremely confident in his abilities, coupled with the fact he seems to think Mayweather is old and slow; and (2) $100,000,000. It looks like it costs a lot of money to be Connor McGregor, and $100,000,000 is a lot of money!
Yes, he is loud and he is super-confident but he also takes chances to push himself. When he lost to Nate Diaz, two weight-classes above his usual fights, he owned up to his mistakes and demanded they do it again in the same weight-class. If he had lost again, his career would have been more or less shot. Taking such chances I think is laudable. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right? |

This Daily News writer details his problems with Conor McGregor:
MMA star Conor McGregor is a bigot — but he’s been given a free passConor McGregor, the Irish darling of mixed martial arts, is a bigot. Dig a little bit, and you'll see it for yourself. Is he entertaining? Yes. Is he a gifted self-promoter? Absolutely. Is he a skilled, hard-working fighter for the UFC? For sure. And because of his popularity, fans and brands alike are willing to look past his numerous reprehensible statements. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.co...-1.3260252 |

Those press conferences were god-awful embarrassments to all involved.
Perfect lead-in to this fight! |

I agree which is why I called it a schtick. And the writer above also--purposely I think--avoids calling McGregor a racist only attributing that label to his taunts.
Both fighters are in on this acting display clearly.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the taunts from both sides were scripted. The whole thing comes across like a bad WWE storyline. It's getting to the stage now where I'm half expecting Stone Cold Steve Austin to come out during the 5th round and give them both Stone Cold stunners. |
