Skyhooks - Somewhere In Sydney...
Somewhere in Sydney there's a lady so pretty When she crosses the harbour she's the queen of the city Somewhere in Sydney there's a lady so sweet She hides her tattoo when she's out on the street Well it might look like Monaco But it sure ain't Greece They gave us Sin City on a million year lease Ten miles outa Sydney On Freeway Five The radio's playin' just as fast as you drive Somewhere in Sydney upon Bellevue Hill There's a gay boy with a new toy Movin' in for the kill Somewhere in Sydney there's a boy with a hit Who's shakin' the city and he just won't quit Well it might look like Monaco But it sure ain't Greece They gave us Sin City on a million year lease Ten miles outa Sydney on Freeway Five The radio's playin' just as fast as you drive Sydney sweet Sydney I love your red roofs And I'm spendin' all my money in your telephone booths So many people so many types So much truth and so much hype I get anonymous letters from the North Shore They don't read like hard core Name droppers on the road from my hometown Bein' around just to be around And there ain't no rats in the high rise flats Where the clouds float by my window And the sounds on the streets are so discreet And they're all in their own special lingo. --ยปYou're my favourite moment, you're my Saturday...

The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, Flowing into the night People so busy, makes me feel dizzy, Taxi light shines so bright But I don't need no friends As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset, I am in paradise Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time - Waterloo sunset's fine Terry meets Julie, at Waterloo Station, Every Friday night But I am so lazy, don't want to wander, I stay at home at night But I don't feel afraid As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset, I am in paradise Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time - Waterloo sunset's fine Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground But Terry and Julie cross over the river Where they feel safe and sound And the don't need no friends As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset - They are in paradise Waterloo sunset's fine

Natsume said: I'll be damned if anyone has ever written a song that was inspired by Santa Cruz, but these songs all mention it. That counts, goddamnit!
Hmmm... on that note (pun unintentional), "America: What Time is Love?" by the KLF does mention Boston and Maine. I can't think of any song that mentions Indianapolis... well, Prince did an "Indianapolis Angel" song when he played here on the Newpower Soul tour in 1998, but he did that song at multiple gigs and simply plugged in the name of whatever city he was playing. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
