Have you seen Whiplash? Amazing film. About a jazz drummer and his monsterous teacher, who is insane. It says a bunch about music and its power and why quality art matters more than commercialism. The real debate was was the teacher too mean. I won't give it away.
How cool is it to have a hit movie about jazz? All you others say Hell Yea!!

Oh right. I think it's by the same guy who did La La Land. Two movies about jazz! - this guy obviously likes it a lot!

Loved it. It's loosely based on director Damien Chazelle's own experience when he initially began as a music major...however, unlike the film's protagonist, he found that he couldn't stick it out and changed creative focus in his life...which is just as well, because he now has Whiplash under his belt as a critical darling and LaLa land garnered him enough Oscar recognition to keep him creatively focused for life as well as the master of his own universe

Excellent film, some scenes were hard to watch, Miles Teller was a revelation and J.K.Simmons deserved his Oscar. The soundtrack was brilliant too, I give it a 4 out of 5

Great film, great acting but the crash accident was a little over the top in my opinion.

Love this flick! I bet P did too.

I had commented in another thread last year that I thought P would have been an excellent choice for the JK Simmons role. It would have given the movie a different dimension. The physical threat would have been less but the mental threat would increase exponentially.

I love this movie. It's one of those movies that when I'm having a bad day and think of giving up, it reminds me that if it is something I want, I shouldn't give up no matter what.

I was thinking something similar. I don't think he would have wanted to be as menacing as JK, but it would have been great to see what he could have brought to it. His silent stares alone would have had a powerful impact on Teller.

What? He was a bad actor. Or rather, he wasn't an actor, so... Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

Incorrect. He had roles in five high-profile Hollywood productions. He had his SAG card. He WAS a professional actor. Whether or not he was a good actor is subjective. If he had a strong director that he trusted, I believe the he could successfully portray a character onscreen. [Edited 5/29/17 14:09pm]
