George A. Romero, 'Night of the Living Dead' creator, dies at 77 No one posted this, so i will. George died the same day as Martin Landau. They both will be missed.
It was the night of April 4, 1968, and George A. Romero was driving to New York City from Pittsburgh on a mission: In the days to come he was to meet with film studios in hopes that one might buy the horror film he was lugging in his trunk, “Night of the Flesh Eaters.” None of the studios was interested, but Romero still managed to get his $114,000 film in front of audiences that year. And though critics panned the picture, retitled “Night of the Living Dead,” moviegoers were mesmerized — packing theaters, hitting the drive-ins in droves and making Romero the father of the modern movie zombie. Romero’s “Living Dead” franchise went on to create a subgenre of horror movie whose influence across the decades has endured, seen in movies like “The Purge” and TV shows like “The Walking Dead.” Romero died Sunday in his sleep after a “brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer,” according to a family statement to The Times provided by his longtime producing partner, Peter Grunwald. He was 77.
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Yeah. Thanks for the post. I don't know why more hasn't been made of his contributions. But I'm a classic George junkie. I even bought that POS "there's always vanilla"... plenty of good in Martin, The Crazies (*original) Night of the Living Dead and my 5 way tie all time favorite DAWN OF THE DEAD. ..what a fantastic film. I hope the 3-D print i saw 6 months ago gets a wider screening at this point. It was supervised by Rubinstein but it's absolutely fantastic. Done frame by frame. It actually worked. Apparently it's only played that one time and once before in Japan. Monkeyshines is fantastic as well (i love the performances) even if critics panned out. George did it like classic artists did: everything was filed with personal depth of emotion and contrived on his perspectives. ....but so what? That's what made them all the more awesome. Several people have unfortunately licensed titles like DAY OF THE DEAD and CREEPSHOW only to make pathetic sub par mock ups. He lived a long life for a very tall man. And a meaningful life to the ppl like me who incorporate the things he did into real life; perspectives, art etc. I just wish the bandwagon zombie people would get out of the genre since "walking dead" made zombies into soap opera entertainment ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫
