Do you use Facebook?

I was just wondering how many on here use Facebook.
If not,then why not?
I'm just curious

I'm on Facebook but I don't use it and I ignore all friend requests. I was just curious to see what it was so I set up an account on it. I never had any intention of using it but after I set up the account, I couldn't think of any use for it anyway. It seems kind of pointless.

On it virtually all the time 24/7(except when I am sleeping!!!LOLOL). If u are as much into music as I am it is a very valuable tool to meet up with people, share music, pics(which u CANNOT do on here), get news(in regards Prince, Facebook was and still is the first place I go to for Prince news, as opposed to here, which can be very much behind and late with news). In fact, in general, I am on social media sites now, more than I am on here now!!

Another example. On July 9th I am going to the BST Hyde Park Festival, over here in London, UK, to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Stevie Nicks in concert, which I am virtually having orgasms waiting in anticipation for it!! I wouldnt have known anything about it if it had not have been for Facebook!!!

God knows, what life was like before Facebook came along!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

Actually... Life was pretty good before facebook came along... If you wanted to go to a festival together, you could just make phonecall... You didn't have people staring at their smartphones all the time... You didn't put everything you did online so that a multimillionair could become even richer than he already was... Because that's what facebook is for: using your profile to sell adverts... Facebook "users" aren't users, there're products for Mark Zuckererg to make money off.
Now go and read an actual book!

I do, but in a limited way. It's pretty valuable for keeping track of theatre-related stuff where I live - auditions and whatnot. Most of the groups I belong to are ones for local theatre companies.

My privacy controls are set as tight as I can make them. I do not play any games through Facebook. I do not use any apps through Facebook. I use one browser for Facebook (Firefox) and other browsers (Chrome and Safari) for everything else, so it's harder for Facebook to track the other places I go on the web.

And everytime they send a message asking for my phone number to "make my page more secure," I say, "Fuck you" out loud and delete it. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I use FB but I'm not on there as 'me', I'm on there under a pseudonym ... this way I only add people I want and don't get rubbish friend requests from people I've got no interest in. I have about 40 'friends' on there, all close family and mates.

I totally get why people don't like it. Too many people use it as a bragging tool ... "Oooo, look how well my life is going, look where I've been on holiday, look how sexy I am in my latest selfie, look how many friends I've got" ... if someone needs to validate their life by getting other people's approval or attention, their life clearly isn't going as well as they think it is.

FB works if you use it in the right way. For example, my sister uses it for sharing pics and cute videos of my nieces as I can't get to see them as much as I'd like ... I'd miss that stuff otherwise. Its also great for organising social events. And I love when mates who have the same sick sense of humour as me share funny stuff, memes, gifs, etc, can really cheer me up if I'm having a bad day.

Anyone that posts those pretentious, sound like they say alot but actually say f*ck all, motivational pictures/slogans can go get f*cked ... "Dance like no one's watching" ... no one is watching, you self absorbed assh*le...

I joined facebook as a way of meeting more Prince fans and having access to some things that could legally not be posted on the org. Unfortunately with the 2016 election my fun page got so very political and caustic. I truly didn't want to get into political discussions with fellow Prince fans. Some people never let a day go by without a political comment. I then began going a good week between checking my facebook page.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

I should have done that too, go under a different name, I mean. I used my real name, Emma Cunningham, for Facebook and was bombarded with literally hundreds of friend requests from people I either don't like or barely know.

It's not that I don't like it so much as I don't understand the point of it. Yes, you can use it to keep in touch with friends and family who may live abroad but I use WhatsApp for that, so I just don't get the appeal of Facebook.

NOt anymore, way too much information that i can't deal with. Especially information concerning animal cruelty, it makes me sick. I can't stand it, it's not good for my emotional and psychological health.

Same, and distant friends. I don't use my real name, but I only have real people I know on mine, and they know who I am. I don't play games or use the apps. I don't care that Mark Zuckerburg gets paid for me using his platform to stay in touch with people I want to stay in touch with. Some company is getting paid every time I make a phone call or send a text, anyway.

Besides, it's easier than picking up the phone or sending individual texts to all these clowns to see what they're having for dinner or whose toddler just pooped in the potty.

Nope, I don't have the time to waste. If I wanna talk to somebody, I'll text or call 'em.

I think because FB has been about for a while me and my fellow grumpy middle-agers are use to it. It would be took much of a task to get us to all migrate to a newer thing like WhatsApp or whatever else the kids use these days ... I couldn't even get on with Twitter! lol

WhatsApp is really handy. It's essentially just free text and picture messages. You send them just like sending regular texts. You can make calls through it too, all completely free of charge.

The key to not being "bombarded" is to set your privacy correctly.
