Patch! the one eyed horse! https://www.washingtonpos...87520d4734

I'll also go for Gormley, only because Victor Espinoza is the jockey (American Pharoah).

Yeah that was definitely a factor, as it definitely helped those on the inside posts.

Outside post position certainly hurt the favorite, Classic Empire in the #14 slot, and popular pick Patch had virtually no chance from the #20 slot. Too much slip-sliding away.

That's why I did bet the #1 Looking At Lee across the board exacta, which got me $336 payout. But damn, that $16,594 trifecta woulda been nice!

i'm actually kind of disappointed that the People in Charge didn't postpone the race, wait until the mud dried, and let the horses run safely. racing is a hard enough situation to put a horse into, then top it off with slime underfoot? seems cruel in a way....

Very cruel. Ambivalent about this "sport". The truth for the animals is manipulation & sacrifice.

I trust those running the show knew the conditions were safe. Horses can and do run in the mud quite often, even in pouring rain. Jockeys are the ones who have it bad, with all that slop getting kicked up into their face.

Trust me, if it wasn't safe the trainers and owners wouldn't allow the race to be run. They aren't just horses, they're multi-million dollar moneymakers.

Nothing to do with mud. It's the drugs and euthanasia. Insurance policies, and as you said millions of dollars at stake. RIP Barbaro et al.

kind of like The Hunger Games isn't it? only, with horses competing instead of humans. and, the horses don't always get to retire when they win the Big One.
