The truth is still out there.

Fox is bringing back its popular sci-fi series "The X-Files," starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
On the heels of last year's successful reboot, the network has ordered 10 more episodes.
The co-stars appear to be as excited about it as fans.
Both Duchovny and Anderson tweeted about their return.

Your post reminded me that I was fucking around with Snapchat recently. I face swapped Mulder and Scully. Suddenly, they become Glenn Close & Patrick Stewart, both in drag. LOL

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

They tried already and it flopped. I did not get the same feel as the old shows which are in rerun which are better.

i loved season 10. it was different yes, but funnier than some of the older episodes imo. also, i like watching the characters "mature". Gillian Anderson hsa been doing some brilliant work lately.

Well ratings were good. Honestly it was like the old series. There were some good episodes and once again they forced humour in it which didn't work then nor did it now

By the time the show went off the air it was no longer Scully and Mulder, it was Doggit and Reyes and yeah should have gone off the air when the 2 main stars were gone.

I liked the 10th season but I'm a fan.

Honestly it's grown beyond having to be culturally relevant, or even good, at this point.

For people like me the characters just have to show up and I'm happy. Throw in some crazy conspiracy mumbo jumbo and gallows humor and the recipe is complete.

They could read the phone book for all I care.

^this. bbut i actually think Gillian Anderson is far more powerful as an actress now than when the X-Files began. back then she always seemed so hesitant, so... followy and seeking approval. now she just empowers herself and the role she's playing

Yup. I was a fanatic over the original shows and hated the ending. Glad to see Mulder & Scully back in action.

Maybe...There would never have been an X-Files without Twin Peaks...Twin Peaks started it all and other Networks followed-suit....X-Files was lucky enough to have a stronger following...

Sorry but it was Kolchak: The night Stalker that started it all back in the 70's.

I would say around that time period it was Star Trek the Next Generation that proved to the networks that sci-fi could last more than 1 or 2 seasons on the air.

Star Trek (space exploration) Vs. Sci-Fi Dramas that feature Detectives working unsolved cases are two different subgenres..

i think The Night Stalker kicked it off for real, blending sci-fi with detective format. not that the format had never been seen before, but just the timing and popularity of The Night Stalker paved the way for X-Files

Yes you can tell Chris Carter was a fan. Also Buffy The Vampire slayer creator Joss Whedon was a huge fan.

it was a great show. Darrin Mcgavin summing it all up clue by clue, always wearing the same sloppy suit and crumpled tie. hat pushed back on his head. he was kind of the archetypal journalist himself wasn't he? i think you're right. Chris Carter and Joss Whedon definitely learned something and took it home from The Night Stalker. then again they're both brilliant in their own right. i'd say Carter and Whedon each added something above and beyond the underlying format of TNS
