Smoking...what a filthy habit

This can be more addictive, I've read, than heroin. My filthy addiction. Somehow I didn't do all the others, but as I told a friend, when I wake up in the morning I don't want coffee or food--I want a cigarette. Disgusting and nasty as it is. But, this is my last night for butts in the ashtray. My family members gathered on me last weekend and I want to be done with this. If my brother can quit after smoking since he was 14 years old then so can I. Longer than me. Wish me well, wish me luck--I want to be nicotine free. This is the song to inspire me:

Good luck with quitting. Hopefully you don't find it too difficult. I've never smoked but two people I know quit and never looked back. My sister smoked since she was 12(!) and she gave up a couple of years ago. And my uncle, who had smoked 40 a day for over 30 years quit recently too. Both of them found it pretty easy to quit so hopefully you're one of those people who finds it easy.

you can do it. don't think of it as quitting something, think of it as starting something new.

here's a magic spell for you: close your eyes and imagine a doorway. (or, use a real doorway in your home). picture you as a smoker on one side, and you as a non-smoker on the other side.

when you step through that doorway, either actually or imaginarily, you become a non-smoker. you are no longer a smoker who has quit for one day, you are re-born as a non smoker and you are a day old.

you've already quit and now you just have to be true to your new self.

We are behind you purps! Wow, a family intervention! Good thing that they can be involved in your journey to be free of the nicotine. I've know at least 10 people who have quit and each have used different paths. Hubby quit after a couple of decades mainly because of a discount on health insurance. Toward the end of his smoking he became a casual user anyway. In his head he would put barriers to smoking opportunities: Don't smoke in the car, don't smoke in the house, don't smoke around our son, can't smoke at work or on premises--so he was down to 4 ciagrettes per day if that. Therefore the opportunity to save on health insurance just put it over the edge for him.

Sending comforting purple vibes to you!

Thanks for the support y'all--it means a lot on day one. I threw my cigarettes in the garbage where they belong. wink
