agree. although, the question of does that lump of meat feel pain? experience life in any way? would arise. still, better that than killing animals the way we do
Okay "author", Imma let you run with that one.
I mean we don't think individual body parts when removed from the whole go through any of that, feel pain, think for themselves.

Every generation thinks it's generation is the best. Even in Solomon's time people that they were living in an ideal environment, I know I wouldn't want to give up my conviences to be living in that time of "purity".
Yeah, but do we have the wisdom of Solomon's time when he was asked who was one of two mothers who claimed a child and he said to "cut the child in half" and the real mother tried to give the child to the fake mother rather than have her child cut in half. She was given the child. Solomon, in the story, knew what he was doing. I fear our leaders now don't know who to give "the child" to and, worse, don't care. i agree. serious population control must (imo) be the foundation of that future. there will be twice as many humans using the same limited resources of planet earth in 2050.
the idea that just anybody can have children has to be modified, i'm afraid. not everyone should be allowed to reproduce (history of violence, abuse, psychopathic personality disorders etc.), nor should folks be allowed to bring twenty children into a crowded world.
then again, who makes the decision about who can breed? it's going to be nightmare complicated when push comes to shove.
unless, of course, another pandemic reduces our numbers to one fifth, at which point future generations could actually benefit from the technology available and maybe, just maybe turn things around.
otherwise, this planet is doomed and we along with it. we are bacteria outgrowing our petri dish....

okay rough outline: lump of flesh has rudimentary sentience and the unexpected ability to mutate, given the process involved in its creation. and upon consumption becomes a mind-control parasitical life form that turns the tables and slowly eats the human from the inside out, growing into a kind of replica of said human, but with some shocking new, and highly undesirable, qualities.

it's not that far-fetched; consider that there are lots of species which are literally 'zombie mind control' parasites. if said lump of flesh were to be created using a genetically related form of any of those parasitical life forms, the end result could be? soylent green meets jurassic park?

sorry. bit off-topic. i do think it's cool that three parents could combine their best qualities to make a disease free baby.

Well Solomon was the one with the wisdom, so I'm sure there's a couple of folks around today that have wisdom "we" just have to be opened to it. I think the fact that we have open information is a good thing, we have some idea what's going as opposed to the past where decisions were made and "we" were none-the-wiser, but there's been a price to pay for it. |

foolproof plan. alternatively, we could clone trump secretly, then unleash dozens of him on the world, creating mass confusion and doubt. naturally, the trump clones would bicker amongst themselves and be too busy to throw shade at dissenters on twitter and rival politicians. problem solved.

i agree. serious population control must (imo) be the foundation of that future. there will be twice as many humans using the same limited resources of planet earth in 2050.
the idea that just anybody can have children has to be modified, i'm afraid. not everyone should be allowed to reproduce (history of violence, abuse, psychopathic personality disorders etc.), nor should folks be allowed to bring twenty children into a crowded world.
then again, who makes the decision about who can breed? it's going to be nightmare complicated when push comes to shove.
unless, of course, another pandemic reduces our numbers to one fifth, at which point future generations could actually benefit from the technology available and maybe, just maybe turn things around.
otherwise, this planet is doomed and we along with it. we are bacteria outgrowing our petri dish....

Now see I'm confused about the whole population issue. All my life I've heard about population problems. Then I hear things from Ray Kurzweil who says that the entire current population of the world could live in Texas quite comfortably. I can't wrap my head around that. |

i am fine with this and cloning... what will be interesting for 3 parent-baby or a clone what will that say if anything about the nature.
The only problem I'd have with cloning is that the child wouldn't have a normal life. He/she would always be looked at as different. And that's assuming things go to plan. Then you'd have to take into account that there's a strong possibility that the child could be born with any number if defects. I'm not talking about webbed fingers or anything, I'm talking about birth defects exclusive to the cloning process that we don't even know about yet. There's no guarantee that it would work perfectly first time so you're taking a massive risk of creating a life just to put it through tremendous pain and suffering. It's not worth it. In relation to the "3 parent" thing, if it's going to prevent genetic diseases being passed on, then it's a way for many people to have children who otherwise may not have that option. And that's a good thing.
wasn't the same thing said about test tube babies? I don't know but considering it's a completely different process the potential dangers are completely different so I don't think you can equate one with the other. The only conceivable use I can think of for cloning is for cloning organs rather than whole people. That would be useful for anyone waiting on a new kidney and things like that. |

it isn't the amount of physical space we occupy, it's the resources we use to keep up our way of life. the amount of waste we generate individually, causing things like floating garbage piles in the ocean and the florida gulf dead zone. it's the pesticide-linked death blow to the bumblebees, the antibiotics we piss into the waterways that affect the entire food chain, it's the fact that people eat meat which requires so much acreage to raise, it's the forests we've decimated to make toilet paper, or farmland to raise cows, fresh water sources made foul by industrial waste, all the little things which each human being requires for his or her way of life cumulatively adversely affecting the envirinment.
nicola tesla did invent free, clean energy sources, but j.p. morgan wanted people to pay for their electricity so he stifled those designs.
basically, it's because humans are sort of stupid and short lived and destructive to the natural world. not to mention we're better off in fewer numbers because we also do not get along with each other very well and frequently war with each other, causing environmentally tragic consequences....
fewer humans means less demand on limited planetary resources, greater integrity of the web of life here that supports us

Sometimes I have a fear of the idea of someone taking it upon themselves to thin the herd. A lot of elitist (don't interpret that as me calling you an elitist, I am not) feel that way about "problem" countries and people, beinging the poorest make up the bulk of the population. I've seen these televised discussion groups many years age addressing such issues and it was a bit frightening how they addressed the problem. Many scientists today are saying the damage has already been done reversing it will take a very long time. So with that in mind I'm looking at those we who are working towards solutions and alternatives. |
