Vegetarians

Has anybody here tried a vegetarian cleanse for a period of time, like say a month? What have been some of the benefits you've experienced? I'm thinking of trying it out in the future, but I want to have a good understanding of what the body goes through during that time.

i liked it. meat doesn't sit well with me anymore. i still very occaionally eat white meat (when meat is served to me by a well intentioned host, i eat it because imo it's disrespectful to refuse the animal's sacrifice), but red meat smells and tastes of blood now and i don't like the taste anymore. being a vegetarian i have more energy, less guilt about food in a factory farming world, and generally feel better about staying alive. just my 2c

Interesting because I gave up beef because it has gotten so damned expensive. I mostly eat chicken and not much of that. I find that I am eating more vegetables and fruit because they are more affordable. On an ironic note, I tried being a vegan for two years decades ago...and I gained a whole lot of weight eating carbs because I was hungry all the time! Not knocking it, but it isn't for me. lol

I actually tried to go vegetarian before just to see if I could do it. What I found out is that my diet is made up almost entirely of meat dishes and after 24 hours of crippling hunger I caved and had a HUGE steak fried in hot sauce. My advice to anyone considering going vegetarian would be to weigh up what your typical diet consists of and see what meat there is in it and work out what you can replace that with.

I tried the vegetarian thing too for a short while and got ravenously hunger, I think it's because I'm anemic and I'm use to getting my iron from meat and didn't compensate for that.

i just had my 5th anniversary of being mainly a vegetarian (i eat hunted meat, and i still have eggs & oysters). i don't really know what you mean by a vegetarian cleanse. is that one of those fad things that are meant to flush your body of some toxin or another? i didn't do it for health reasons - it was strictly a moral argument that swayed me. i make no claim to being the final authority on any such matter - i just try to maintain a diet that i can live with for the long term.

.

from my own experience, my move to a mainly vegetarian diet was completely painless & i never really had any issues to speak of. i feel fine (i felt fine before too, no health issues with or without meat), i've had my blood work done up a few times and i seem to be doing alright - except that my b12 levels were through the roof, because i was supplementing while continuing to occasionally eat eggs & some fortified vegetarian prep foods.

.

one of the more pleasant side effects is that my entire digestive process (without getting too graphic) is far more calm and relaxed than it once was, and that's on a diet where i have beans or lentils or chick peas pretty much daily. that's just me of course, but it does seem that there is something in my own digestive flora that seems very at ease with a meat-free diet.

Actually, I have moved to a more vegetarian/making your own meals from scratch diet because of rising food prices. The benefits that I have observed are a weight loss that has lasted for years and good blood pressure levels, etc. that other people I know don't have. Just my experience. But I still eat meat, eggs, cheese, etc. Just at a lower level than before. Actually, I just gave up milk because I was throwing it away. I now put juice in my oatmeal. lol

Almost 20 years for me. I can't say I've never had a cold but I would never go back. I know I'll go vegan in the not-to-distant future, I hate the fact that I really struggle to give up cheese.

I'd rather a steak, to be honest.
