CBS Young Sheldon

Big Bang Theory' spinoff 'Young Sheldon' ordered CBS

1489435840951.jpg?ve=1&tl=1

A "Big Bang Theory" spinoff about Sheldon (Jim Parsons) has been ordered by CBS. (CBS)

CBS has officially given a series order for “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Young Sheldon,” Variety has learned. The half-hour single camera series, currently with an unspecified number of episodes ordered, will premiere in the 2017-2018 season.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, the series follows “The Big Bang Theory’s” Sheldon Cooper at age 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.

Jon Favreau is directing and executive producing the first episode of the series, which stars Iain Armitage as 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper — played by Jim Parsons on “Big Bang” — as well as Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. Armitage is a triple-threat, starring on HBO’s “Big Little Lies” as Shailene Woodley’s on-screen son, while Jordan will make his acting debut opposite Josh Brolin in upcoming indie “The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter.” The cast was rumored to be set earlier in March.

“Big Bang” showrunner Molaro wrote the pilot script. Lorre, Molaro, Parsons and Todd Spiewak will serve as executive producers of the series, from Chuck Lorre Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Parsons will also narrate the comedy as Adult Sheldon.

As for the mothership, “Big Bang,” now in its 10th season, hasn’t been immune to the ratings erosion plaguing most series, but is still the biggest comedy by far on broadcast, and as such is being eyed for a two-season renewal at CBS, sources say. “Big Bang” star Johnny Galecki also has the multicam pilot “Living Biblically” in contention at the network.

Chiiiild, I can't even deal with TBBT as it is right now. It's the same flat characters, half-dozen stale jokes, etc etc. All that shit in an adolescent???

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

...I'm just curious - is there anywhere in the US where a waitress and a physicist would live in the same building??

Beautiful waitresses make very good (and tax free!) money.

First, it's suspended reality on a TV show. The girls on FRIENDS probably could not have afforded the apt they had with Rachel being a waitress, and Monica being a chef. Rachel did end up with a better job, as did Monica, but that was a big apt. So, maybe?

In reality though, I don't think a physicist is an automatic six or seven figure income and living in a condo on the 33rd floor of a 40 story building. I also don't think a waitress would be living in a hovel. I'm not sure why anyone would consider a waitress, who can make a few hundred a night, can't live in the same building that a physicist would, or vice versa. Just because one has money doesn't mean they have to then find a new apt, condo, or townhome to equal out the level of income. Make more money, let's get a bigger place? That's actually irresponsible financial management.

As a funny note - the elevator is broke in that building. It ain't that great anyway. hahaha

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I've always wondered why these guys live like they're college students. I guess it's to make them relatable.

Big Bang Theory is set in Pasadena. There is no reason for Leonard to need a roommate to afford a place (especially a roommate he fights with constantly), when Raj has a decent place by himself.

Monica Geller was subletting from her dead grandmother's rent controlled rates.

...and btw - till date, does anyone know what Joey DOES? smile Like, they've showed us his workplace maybe....maybe 5 times in the entire show, and that too, to show us, that he essentially does nothing.....

Uh..he's an actor. He was in movies and plays, and an earlier gig had him being Robert DeNiro's butt double. His spin-off show was about him moving to L.A. to pursue acting more. The actress who played his agent was in it too.

They are all kinda young and still relatively new in their careers, therefore they are on the bottom of the payscale.

Leonard & Sheldon lived together.

Howard lived with his mother, and then with Bernadette.

Raj is being supported by his extremely wealthy parents.

Hey Comic-Con can run into some big bucks if you get too happy there.

But I hear you. I listened to an interview including Mayim, and that field does attract an eclectic range of personalities, I'd imagine some really don't spend their money because they're doing exactly what completely fulfills them or they're cheap.

There was some episode where they showed Stuart actually, I think, eating Ramen noodles cause he had so little money!! Wow! Is that actually true??! Is that how a comicbook-shop owner lives in the US?? Seems a long length to go to, to keep your dream alive....?! (they say he's a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design too, so - he actually knows how to draw comics...!!! Cool! Are there any actual shops like THAT in the US??!! smile )

If it has the same writing team as TBBT then I predict much hilarity.

Young Sheldon is co-created by Chuck Lorre, that's all you need to know. When it comes to sitcoms, Chuck is the absolute best.

You aren't kidding!

I wonder why anyone would think that with Lorre being the creator of this, it would be a bomb. With that guy's track record, anything he puts out deserves a few viewings before making such an extreme judgement.

Maybe they didn't know Lorre is behind it?

Or maybe they are just skeptical of spinoffs, which is understandable. Not too many of 'em last very long. The only exceptions I can think of right now are The Jeffersons, Frazier, The Simpsons, Laverne & Shirley, Saved By The Bell, Mork & Mindy, Family Matters, Facts of Life and A Different World.
