I'm with you on that Rodeo

The ever growing acronyms for businesses. I hate messages from acronyms. I'm not calling you back if I have no idea who you are and what you do.

And this phone call I get every day, from the same people. The prefix is always the same but the rest of the number changes. I've answered it. It's a recording in spanish. They never leave a message when I don't answer, they never answer a call back. They have the wrong number and no way of being informed that they are wasting everybody's time calling every flippin' day.

OMGoodness, I got that call again same prefix, this time the recording was in English. It's a promotion for hotel service. Well I pressed 2 so hopfully I'll never get that call again.

One thing I've heard done is that you press 1 for an operator, get a live human, and tell them you want to talk but could they please call back on your private line so you can better deal with them? Then give them this number:

202-324-2000

then hang up.

If they actually dial that number, they get the FBI's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

For me, the thing that REALLY pisses me off to no end is when potential pet sitting clients call me to ask me about my rates. When I tell them what they are, they then proceed to tell me, "Oh, that's too much money!!!" Uhhh, excuse YOU, but for your information, I charge LESS than what some pet sitters/dog walkers do in this area. :eyeroll: I have started to tell people, "Well, what I charge is the what other people charge for pet sitters/dog walkers in this area". I only charge $50 for an overnight stay at someone's house (and I stay there for 12 hours), whereas another pet sitting/dog walking company that I used to work for charged $65 a night! I have learned that some people are just fucking cheapskates, and they want everything for a cheap, cheap price. Well, I'm sorry, but I have to make a living too, and if I charge too little money, then I'm just cheating myself. I already work a part-time job to supplement my pet sitting business income, and it looks like I'm going to have to get yet another part-time job. I feel like I'm selling my soul to Satan and his chronies, but I gotta do what I gotta do to make ends meet. I just want my pet sitting/dog walking business to take off already and to be successful, but it has been rough. I never knew that starting up your own business could be so frustrating and difficult!

Wish you the best for you and your business. At the beginning it's quite hard as far i know, so don't give up, it takes some time. And first of all, love what you do, because we are talkin about taking care of living beings, so treat them accordingly.

Oh, I got this one.

I also own an animal related service business. Pets are one of those weird luxuries (yes, they are) that people often feel they are entitled to at others' expense. They expect you to do what you do for love of animals and have this perception that you should subsidize their pet care. Don't fall for it. I took a deep breath and put my prices up substantially higher than any competition because, frankly, I'm not trying to appeal to bargain hunters. As a result, my business is almost like an exclusive club that people seriously get on a waiting list to be a part of. I provide excellent service, and I am also totally unashamed to want to make good money working with animals which I love. IME there are enough people willing to spend whatever it takes to take good care of their fuzz-buddy vs. the bargain shoppers, and I cherry-pick from them. Let the haters hate. I refuse to waste my time and energy validating my prices in comparison with the competition. "Well, that sounds like a great deal. Enjoy."

I think in pet related businesses we kind of allow ourselves to at least somewhat buy into that whole love of animals mindset and we start feeling kind of guilty and bending over backward to justify needing to make a living. It goes so much better when you approach it as any other profit motivated business which just happens to be working with animals we love.

I don't know your gender, but generally speaking, there is also a perception among professions that many consider largely female dominated that we're just a bunch of bored housewives with a hobby. No. It's a business and these are my prices. No apologies and no validation. I run it like a business and have all proper licensing and business cards and company logo which is on my work clothing and social media interaction and Chamber of Commerce membership, the whole business works as opposed to, say, craigslist ads and flyers. Anything to drive home the point of professionalism, not a hobby or hustle. Treat it like a business and market yourself to people looking for a professional, not a hobbyist.

People who hold up traffic because of their own stupidity.

Like when you're sitting a couple cars behind someone at a really long light, and the light finally turns green, but the driver doesn't move because they are playing with their phone, so you get stuck at the same damn red light for a second time.

And people who are too stupid to turn right on red, or too wrapped up playing with their phone. I'll give you 30 seconds to take that turn when there are no cars coming, if you don't move your ass in that allotted amount of time I'm going around you.

And those who insist on staying in the passing lane, despite the minor fact that they aren't passing anyone. When they do it next to a truck or bus or slow moving vehicle, it's like a rolling roadblock. They call it the "Passing Lane" for a reason! If you're not passing cars, get the hell out of the lane and let others pass you!!

And rubberneckers ... God I hate them with a passion! Any time there's a car pulled over on the side of the road, or a flashing light, they just gotta slow down to 5MPH and stretch their neck to see what's going on. Do they give a damn that they are holding up everyone else, and potentially causing others to get rear-ended? Nope, not even when the car they're looking at is on the other side of the highway.

"Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

When you signal to get into the lane to exit and the someone behind you gets over and cuts you off only to change lanes back into the lane they were in!

Or someone trying to get a few seconds ahead and will be in the exit only lane and then stop to get back over.

What's even more hilarious is how they pretend to be Americans by using fake names.

Multilingualism is very common, especially outside of the US. Everyone from Kobe to Melania can fluently speak at least three languages.

I just wish the customer service reps would be real, rather than pretend to be someone they're not.
