One-thousand seven Chinese robots set a new Guinness World Record for “most robots dancing simultaneously” at the Qingdao Beer Festival in Shandong, China, and it was almost as cool as the time four Tatiana Maslanys dan...ltaneously on Orphan Black. Okay, fine, maybe this display of scientific achievement is a little more impressive than Maslany’s dancing skills—but only a little.
Named QRC-2, the robots were organized by a team from Ever Win Company & Ltd. and each stood 43.8 centimeters (17 inches) tall. They were controlled from a single mobile phone that instructed them to simultaneously bust a move. The robo-dancers had to keep dancing for a full minute in order to count toward the record total, and a few robots were disqualified for falling over or malfunctioning before that minute was up, but for the most part, this dance troupe killed it. They don’t exactly have sick dance skills, but it’s technologically impressive or whatever. They definitely missed an opportunity for a simultaneous thousand-plus robot dance crew dab, though. Ever Win Company & Ltd. nearly doubled the previous record, which was held by a measly 540-robot dance crew from UBTECH Robotics Corp. You can watch the QRC-2 routine and the setup process below:
