3 days agoMore NewsA reboot of the 1999 sci-fi classic The Matrix is in the works at Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter. Few details about the project exist, however, including the involvement of the original trilogy's creators, the Wachowski sisters. .
Which action movie ranked above 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' 'Terminator 2' and 'Rambo?' According to sources, Lilly and Lana Wachowski are not currently involved in the reboot and their relationship to any new project has yet to be determined. As for a star, sources noted an interest in Michael B. Jordan, while Alpha's creator and go-to superhero movie story- and scriptwriter Zak Penn might could write the treatment. . It's also unclear what form the Matrix reboot would take. An idea to turn it into a TV show was scrapped, though there is apparently interest in mimicking the new Star Wars model, in which stand-alone films like Rogue One or the upcoming young Han Solo movie delve into specific stories of the larger cinematic universe. . In a recent interview, The Matrix's original star, Keanu Reeves, even expressed interest in reprising his role as Neo if the Wachowskis were involved. "They would have to write it and direct it," he told Yahoo Movies. "And then we'd see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that'd be weird, but why not?" . The Matrix became an unexpected smash after its release in 1999, thanks to its revolutionary special effects and a story that questioned notions of reality at the outset of a new digital age. The film picked up four Academy Awards, and while its sequels, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions, were less well received, they were huge box office successes. . Along with the trilogy, the Wachowskis contributed to other Matrix properties including The Animatrix, a collection of short anime films detailing the Matrix universe, and several video games. Outside of the franchise, the Wachowskis collaborated on Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, the V for Vendetta screenplay and the Netflix series, Sense8.

Apparently it's supposed to be a prequel about Morpheus. It could go either way, really. If it's good, which I'd doubt, then we get a good movie to see. If it's bad, then you don't have to watch it. I don't buy the argument that it will ruin the originals reputation because I believe Reloaded and Revolutions already did that.

The original was so good that the sequels didn't ruin its reputation. Most just disregard those. A prequel could work but it is what it is just like the sequels, a cash grab. Did anyone hear about how The Matrix was ripped off from this black screenwriter named Sophia Stewart? She won a billion dollar lawsuit against Warners and now seems blacklisted. It might explain why the original was supposed to star an unwilling Will Smith, and also why The Wackowski's never seemed to write anything coherent since.

She was never awarded any money in that lawsuit because she's full of shit. She also claimed to have come up with the idea for The Terminator. That story about her winning the lawsuit has already been debunked multiple times so the reason the Wackowski's haven't done anything worthwhile since The Matrix must be something else.

You're 100% correct. There are far too many sequels/prequels/remakes/reboots. Unfortunately, most of them are successful so until the grosses go down, we're going to get a whole lot more. The best you can hope for is that they're good. But for every Star Wars Episode 7 there's 10 Ghostbusters 2016's.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions left over from the original trilogy such as is the "real world" actually the real world or just another level of the matrix? Because how could Neo use his powers in the real world? By saying that the world they believed to be real is just another simulation, it both explains how Neo could see with no eyes and stopped a sentinel like he stops bullets in the matrix, and it also gives an easy way of bringing Neo back into the series by saying his "death" was just him being woken and brought into the actual real world.
