Mario? Round a track? MARIO KART?!?!?!?

Sorry, just a little on edge. I'm getting impatient now waiting for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the new Nintendo console. smile

Nope, not enough physical effort expended I'm afraid. It really annoys me when people say chess is a sport. Yes a quadriplegic will have great difficulty moving the pieces, but look a robot arm could do the same job neutral

I hope so. I've got the Switch, Zelda and a pro controller all preordered for this Friday. Can't wait! But with Lego City and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe both due out in April, and multiple bills due all at the same time, it means I'll have to hold off on Mass Effect Andromeda until a later date, which is frustrating. But I have high hopes for Zelda so that should lessen the blow.

I don't get the excitement tbh. I think the best thing to emerge over next few years will be VR. Playing games like Trackmania Turbo and Wipeout w/ flawless resolution and framerate. Now that'll be something unique! smile

I grew up with games like Zelda, Mario Kart etc. The fact that those games are still being made and are better than ever is reason enough for me to be excited. Add to that the ability to bring those games with me when I'm travelling abroad or whatever and that just sweetens the deal.

I'm with you on the whole VR thing. I've got a Playstation VR which is a great starting point for virtual reality gaming. Maybe not as good as my brothers Oculus Rift but I love it. Trackmania didn't impress me though but that's probably because I'm terrible at it. Resident Evil 7 on the other hand is absolutely brilliant. It's so intense in VR. I lost count of how many times I literally squealed in terror... I'm really looking forward to Ace Combat VR!

Nevermind banana skins and shells! Remember heady days of Mario 64? Mario here looks like he did a massive turd, which in many ways resembles most Nintendo games.

(Apparently it's merely the absense of anisotropic filtering) but you could have fooled me confused

Expensive indeed!! I'm in to my retro gaming as much as the modern stuff. I've got a converted arcade machine packed with emulators that I really should use more. Have just invested in a little Raspberry Pi machine for the downstairs TV to.

I still can't believe you're not familiar with the Unreal Tournament series. IMO, one of the best PC games ever, right up there with DOOM. The weapons, maps, the different modes (deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, assault, etc.) - UT is highly addictive.

My gaming experience is pretty limited. I grew up with the aforementioned Nintendo and Sega consoles and aside from owning a DS and "borrowing" my boyfriend's 3DS, I didn't play games again until a couple of years ago when my brother gave me his Xbox 360. I got really into Mass Effect and Fable and then I got a Wii U, primarily for Mario Kart 8. I have an Xbox One and PS4 now too and I've preordered the Switch but I've never played games on my PC with the exception of a few point and click games like Broken Sword and Blade Runner. I'm assuming that Unreal Tournament is a multiplayer game? Which, even if I did play PC games, the multiplayer nature of it would turn me off. Aside from Mario Kart, I don't dabble in online or multiplayer of any kind. A big part of why I play games is for the story. Mass Effect, Halo, Bioshock etc. They're the type of games I like. I was really excited about star wars Battlefront until I found out there was no campaign mode. I bought it the other day for 9.99 on the Playstation store purely so I could play the free VR mission. I have no intention of playing it online. Unreal Tournament sounds very good, and I'd trust your judgement when you say it's one of the best games around, but it's just not the sort of game I play. Besides. I'm pretty sure my paltry computer couldn't handle it.

The best Unreal Tournament was the 1999 version. Still holds up today.

Unreal Tournament III is pretty good.....here's a sample;

I'm not sure I've played them. Most of their games are intended for kids- if you're an adult still playing them then you're still a kid smile GoldenEye was a classic no doubt. And Nintendo deserve credit for pioneering the handheld console, also the analogue control stick.

Nintendo are the Pixar of the games industry. They're games are for everyone, not just children. The Mario games can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. You'd have to be really insecure to turn down playing Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy on the grounds of it being "too childish". Metroid Prime and F-Zero are other Nintendo games which aren't made for kids. Likewise, the new Zelda game, "Breath of the Wild". That's hardly a kids game either. I've read some people's comments on it saying they wouldn't play it purely because it's a Nintendo game. Some people are just insane. You have possibly the best game ever made and people are refusing to play it because of an irrational grudge against the company who makes it. It's just weird. THOSE are the kids you're referring to.

OAPs enjoyed Wii... gave them dementia apparently. So it doesn't mean it was any good. Likewise, some people have taken to lick Nintendo Switch cartridges, which apparently taste of really bitter lemons. Look if kids are going to resort to tasting their games, then we've really got problems neutral

This just in on social media ...

"Nintendo's plan is to only release 8-10 games for this system, which is average for the bin N, but to make the cartridge so small that you will lose them once a month. This allows them to keep selling software to the Nintendo schmucks without having to develop any actual software outside of Zelda and Mario. Cunning plan"

I enjoyed the Wii too. Two Mario Galaxy games, two Zelda games, two No More Heroes games, Mario Kart and the best version of Resident Evil 4. There were a lot more too but they were the highlights for me.
The bitter taste that they added to the cards are to stop pets and babies from eating them. It's not really all that necessary in my opinion, there's only so many places you could lose them while transferring them from console to box, but there you go. Though I will admit that after reading that the Switch game cards tasted bitter, I couldn't resist a lick wink
