The founder of Little Caesars discreetly paid Rosa Parks' rent for years

Mike Ilitch was known for being the founder of Little Caesars and owner of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers, but he quietly made a difference in the life of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

Ilitch died last week at age 87, and in several articles eulogizing him, it was noted that he paid Parks' rent so she could move to a safer neighborhood. Parks, a native of Alabama, moved to Detroit not long after she famously refused to get up from her seat on a bus in 1955. In 1994, she was robbed and assaulted in her central Detroit home, and when Ilitch read an account of the crime, he notified mutual friends and let them know he was going to cover her rent for as long as necessary.

Parks, then 81, moved to a safe apartment building, where she lived until her death in 2005. Their friend, Judge Damon Keith, said Ilitch was always doing kind things for others. "It's important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks because it's symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city," he told The Sports Business Daily in 2014.

I've never been too big a fan of their pizza, but it now I am.

I will bring little Ceasers for potluck from now on.
It's not like my home made mashed potatoes were a big hit anyway.

After the passing of Ms. Parks The Media reported that she died penniless..Mike Ilitch was indeed a Blessing during the final years of her life...

I could not believe that Black organizations, especially The NAACP, never came up with the idea to talk to Ms. Parks or the individual representing her Public & financial affairs...I'm not casting blame but it's just weird that Our community let her live a destitute life before she died....

Rich Black folks can do anything with their Money and should never be told how to spend their money. There are enough Private Foundations and enough of us to put our Money together and take care of a Civil Rights ICON..

Countless Rich Black Celebs donated their money to help fund The National Museum of African-American History & Culture in D.C. but we let Ms. Parks leave this earth worrying about how she was gonna pay her bills...SHE is The Mother of African-American History & Culture...

It's not good pizza by any means but it's the best cheap pizza out of the Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Dominos and LC quadfecta.
