Why was that?? Jim Kelly was the QB. There was talent there, Steve Young, Reggie White, Hershell Walker, and Doug Flutie who come to mind. I use to watch them on TV back in the day and they were fun to watch and seems like people were coming out to watch them (not like NFL Europe where only people in the stadium were family members of the players) Pittsburgh Maulers had a reasonable fan support. What killed the USFL was going against the NFL which caused alot of teams to fold or move. I wish the USFL would come back, it almost did a few years ago but the man behind it pulled out. I hate that long stretch of no football from February - September (not counting pre-season games) and if the USFL would play during that time it would really fill the void. Hey who knows Tebow and Manziel could be stars in that league. The Stars did well and they were overall the strongest team in the USFL.

Rough crowd. Lots and lots and lots of drunk oilfield workers. They mainly wanted to fight anyone and everyone, and going to a cheap football game was their way of walking into a target-rich environment.
A friend of mine owned the Houston franchise in what was supposed to be the next USFL. I asked him about it and he said it (the new league) was a joke, and the league had recruited him to go on TV and say, "Spring football is coming back!" But he never thought spring football was ever coming back and it didn't.
Are you talking when Michael Drywer was planning on bringing back the USFL a few years ago ??? Was the Houston Franchise going to be the Gamblers? |

The Atlanta Falcons are right outside my office right now, getting serenaded by the Memorial High School Band before they head over to NRG Stadium for practice. I have no insights to offer. |

I don't remember who it was or what the Houston team was going to be called. This was maybe 3 years ago or so. I just know that it never got off the ground and my buddy said he was never anticipating actually writing a check and owning a team. But he got on TV a few times for it.

Yeah, it was really rough. I remember my dad, my brother and I telling each other, "Wow! We thought Houston Oilers crowds were rough! These guys would beat up an Oilers crowd in about 2 minutes!"
The Gamblers were good, though.

Only way Atlanta wins is pass rush, pass rush, pass rush. If the Falcons can't get to Brady like Houston did, game over. |

I've got money on the line here so I'm hoping that if there is a God after all, that the Patriots win. Because I'm sure that's what God would do. What else is he there for if not to help me win a bet. |

What??? EmmaMcG why????? I rooted for Ireland. I'm sorry but there's an awful lot of money on the line here. I could potentially end the weekend 2 grand richer. |

if there is a God who oversees NFL activity, why would he bless the Patriots (convicted sinners) with a win?... |
